Jet2 is a leading leisure airline in Europe that’s now over 30 years old, flying to over 50 destinations within the continent. Jet2 recently won "Best Short Haul Airline" at the Globe Travel Awards 2014, and they offer charter and cargo services too. They are based in Leeds, UK, but also have bases in Belfast International, Alicante and Edinburgh.
Jet2 pride themselves on “Friendly Low Fares”, with 22kg baggage allowances and friendly afternoon flight times. They have an instantly recognizable brand, and they paint destination names on the side of most of their aircrafts (like “Scotland” or “Yorkshire”) as well as their logo. You can also book package holidays with “jet2holidays”, in destinations around Europe.
How to check in
You can check in online or at the airport. If checking in online, you will be able to do so 28 days prior to departure, up until 5 hours until boarding. After this, you will have to check in at the airport, as well as depositing any baggage for the hold at the bag drop. If travelling with a child, you will have to check in at the airport. Jet2 check in desks open 2 hours prior to departure, and close 40 minutes before boarding. Individual destination check in times can be found on Jet2’s website.
Baggage Allowances and Fees
Hand baggage must not exceed the dimensions of 56x45x25cm, or weigh over 10kg. Each passenger is allowed one item of cabin baggage. You can purchase checked in luggage allowances online or at the airport, but all bags must weigh under 23kg. Each passenger is allowed up to 3 items of checked in baggage, and bags must weigh under 32kg – each extra kilo over 23kg is charged at €16 per kg.
If you want to sit with accompanying travellers, you will have to purchase seat reservations online at a cost of €8 per seat. It can cost over €18 to book a seat with extra legroom prior to boarding. You are able to change seat reservations, however there is also a charge for this.
Service on Board
You are able to purchase a non refundable in flight meal prior to boarding, but Jet2 do not cater for vegan, diabetic, gluten-free, kosher and nut-restricted diets due to operational reasons. There’s usually an on board snack menu, but Jet2 do not offer in flight television sets.
If you check in online but do not have your boarding pass on arrival, you will be charged €23. You will be charged €16 per extra kilo of excess baggage. There’s no booking fee, but there is a 2 – 2.5% fee on credit card and Paypal transactions.
