Monarch Airlines have been in operation since 1968. In the early days the airline had just two aircraft. By 1972, Monarch was transporting over 500,000 passengers. In the 1980’s they were the first airline to purchase not one but four new Boeing 757 twin jet aircrafts. In 2001 Monarch introduced an online booking service, the use of which rose to 90% of total bookings, by March 2007. Today, Monarch own over 30 planes that fly over 6 million travellers to more than 50 destinations around the world.

How to Check In
Online check-in is available between 18 days and four-and-a-half hours before scheduled departure. At the airport, check-in desks are open from two hours before departure for domestic flights and three hours before scheduled take-off for long-haul flights. They close 40 minutes before domestic and one hour before long-haul flights.
Baggage Allowance and Fees
Passengers are entitled to one piece of hand luggage free of charge. The maximum weight is 10kg and total dimensions should be 56 x 45 x 25cm. There is a £50 fee if this is found to have been exceeded at the boarding gate. Checked baggage carries a fee, namely £15.99 for short-haul flights when booked online and 18.99 for long-haul flights. This is per one way flight. If booked via call centre or at the airport the fee increases to £25. The maximum hold luggage allowance is 20kg however Vantage Silver/Gold members may take up to 30kg. Monarch will not transport bags that weigh more than 32kg. Passengers can purchase extra baggage allowance in 3kg increments up to 12kg. This costs £7.50 online.
Seats may be reserved at the booking stage, on the website for between £4.99 and £8.99 per seat, per flight. Vantage Club gold members are allocated their seats free of charge. Extra legroom seats may be purchased for £10 per flight.
Monarch Airlines does not charge a fee for booking by credit or debit card.
Service on Board
Being a budget airline, Monarch does not provide complimentary in-flight food or drink. However, passengers may order in-flight meals online for approximately £9. Sandwiches and hot drinks are also available. There is a complimentary magazine which travellers may take away with them.
