Qantas is Australia’s largest and oldest airline, founded in Queensland in the 1920’s. It currently transports 18.7% of all passengers flying in and out of Australia, operating over 2,200 flights a week to international destinations. They have codeshares with many international airlines including Emirates, and they’re best known for their sponsorship of Australia’s Rugby Union Team, Qantas Wallabies.
How to check in
“It’s about 93 years of experience and a 5 second check in” with Qantas, they like to streamline the check in process. For domestic flights within Australia and Trans-Tasman, they are introducing self-check in and bag drop kiosks, and Q Card holders can use the Q Card reader. You can also check in on your mobile on Qantas.com, by logging into your bookings and selecting your current flight. Your boarding pass will be sent to you by SMS, which can then be stored in your passbook or Samsung Wallet. For international flights, you are able to check in online 24 hours to an hour prior to departure by using your booking reference number. Alternatively, you can check in at the desk by bringing your E Ticket, Booking Reference Number, Passport and other relevant travel documents. The recommended check in time changes depending on your flight, but it can be anything from 45 minutes to 2 hours prior to departure.
For domestic flights within Aus, you will have until 30 minutes prior to departure to drop your bags at the bag drop, and for international flights your are required to drop your bags 90 minutes prior to departure. On most international flights, you are able to take a bag weighing up to 30 kg, but for flights to North or South America you are permitted to take 2 items with an individual weight of 23kg each. Passengers are permitted to take one small personal item, such as a small handbag, slim laptop case or small camera, as well as their carry on baggage. Carry on baggage must be within these dimensions: L56CMxH36CMxD23CM, weighing 7kg or less.
You are able to reserve your seat in Online, Mobile, and Desk check in. Legroom can be tight with 31” pitch, and 17.5” width. Each seat has it’s own On Demand TV and AC Power outlet, but not all seats have laptop power. Service on Board You are able to check the in flight entertainment online through Qantas’s website. On international economy, drinks and snacks are available throughout the flight, and you can request specialist dietary meals until 48 hours prior to departure.
