Flights to Ronaldsway

The Isle of Man is merely a hop, skip and a jump away from the Irish Coast, but it’s all you need for a bit of R&R!

The Isle of Man sits in equal distance from Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales, and you can trace their influences back to Gaelic and Norse influences in the past 1000 years. Even though they’re a Crown Dependency, Queen Elizabeth is their head of state, and the Tynwald is the oldest continuous governing body in the world.

The island itself is only 32 miles long, and 14 miles wide. Their paved roads lend themselves well to the Tourist Trophy, an international motorcycle-racing event held in late May and early June every year. If you avoid these dates, you’ll have the roads all to yourself so you can explore the Isle of Man’s rugged coastline.

On clearer days, you’ll get a glimpse of Peel Castle. This Viking fort was first built in the 11th Century, and it’s now open to the public during the Summer months. However, if you’re visiting in Winter, Rushen Castle stands on the South of the island in Castletown (original name hey). This was first built in the 13th Century for a Norse king, and now operates as a museum, perfect for rainy days.

The rough and ready landscapes have been here far longer than the castles, but they’re just as beautiful. Snaefell, South and North Barrule, and the Langness Peninsula are areas of outstanding natural beauty. Don’t worry if you happen to see a sheep with more than 4 horns either, it’s not the devil. The Manx Loaghtan Sheep is bred here on the island. You can’t escape the Isle of Man’s rugged charm, whether you find it in their castles, their coasts or their towns.
