US Airways flights

US Airways started life in 1939 as All-American Airways delivering airmail. It changed its name to All American Airlines when it started to run passenger flights in 1949. It had several more name changes from Allegheny Airlines, USAir and finally to US Airways. In 1979 the airline expanded considerably, launching flights to European destinations in 1992. Today US Airways flies millions of passengers to hundreds of destinations across the United States and Europe.

Why fly with US Airways

How to Check In

Online check-in is available from 24 hours up to 60 minutes before flight departure. Airport check-in is also available and closes 30 minutes before departure of domestic flights and 60 minutes for international flights. For some US departures, check-in closes 45 minutes prior to take-off. In many US airports, curb-side check-in is available for a fee of $2. Domestic passengers must be at the boarding gate no later than 15 minutes before departure and at least 30 minutes before departure for international flights.

Baggage Allowance and Fees

Carry-on baggage is limited to one personal item per passenger (i.e. a laptop bag, handbag or briefcase). It is restricted in size to 36cm x 23cm x 56 cm and a maximum weight of 18kg. Checked baggage allowance varies depending on the destination. For European flights, the allowance is one free piece of luggage weighing no more than 23kg. A second bag will cost $55 which increases with each additional bag. European destination excess baggage is charged at $150 for bags up to 32kg. This increases to $175 for oversized items. For flights within the US, the charges start at $90 and up to $175 for oversized luggage.

Seating

At the time of booking passengers can select their preferred seat for free or allow the airline to assign seats. Seats can also be selected at online-check-in.

Booking Fees

Passengers wanting to purchase their ticket by phone will incur a charge of $30. To have a paper ticket printed at the airport costs $75. There are no hidden credit card fees in incurred at the time of booking.

Service on Board

Economy passengers on transatlantic flights receive complimentary meals of main course, salad, bread and dessert. On flights within the US food has to be purchased, however drinks are complimentary. On long-haul flights, there is entertainment in the form of movies, TV and radio programmes. US Airways charge $5 for a pair of headphones. Premium passengers also receive complimentary meals, served on crockery and additional in-flight snacks. The airline magazine is free to all passengers.
