Faro Airport

Faro Airport

Faro Airport, sometimes known as the Algarve Airport, is the third busiest airport in Portugal after Lisbon and Porto. The airport primarily offers flights to and from international destinations in the North of Europe, particularly the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Germany.  A number of flights are also available to destinations within Portugal such as Lisbon and Porto. There are direct flights to Faro from several airports in Ireland including Dublin, Cork, Kerry, Knock, and Shannon.

Faro Airport is located 4km west of Faro, however, most of the visitors to the Algarve travel onwards to other destinations across the Algarve. Popular onward destinations include coastal resorts like Albufeira, Praia da Rocha, Carvoeiro, and Lagos.

If your do not have a transponder in your hire car, or if you’d just prefer not to pay tolls, you can take the N-125 instead.

There is no direct train to Faro Airport. Regular trains run between many towns on the Algarve and Faro city centre. From here you can take the No. 16 bus or a taxi to Faro Airport.

The No. 16 bus runs between Faro Airport and Faro city centre. The total journey time is around 20 minutes, and tickets cost €2.25.

There is a taxi rank outside Faro Airport. Here, you’ll find a number of black and green metered taxis waiting to take you to your final destination. Airport transfers, such as Yellow Fish, run from Faro Airport to the coastal resorts. These should be booked in advance.
