Liverpool John Lennon Airport (usually just referred to as Liverpool Airport) is 12km Southeast of Liverpool city centre. As of 2016, Liverpool Airport is the UK’s 12th busiest Airport. Around 5 million passengers fly to and from Liverpool Airport annually.


Liverpool Airport officially opened in 1933. Initially, the majority of passengers flying to and from Liverpool Airport were flying to destinations in Ireland. In 2001, it was renamed as John Lennon Liverpool Airport. This was the first time an airport in the UK had been named after an individual.


Flights are available from Liverpool Airport to destinations throughout the world. Popular destinations include Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Greece, Turkey, and Morocco. There are direct flights between Liverpool and several airports in Ireland including Dublin, Cork, and Knock.

Liverpool Airport’s nearest train station, Liverpool South Parkway, is situated approximately 3.2km from Liverpool Airport. There are regular bus services between Liverpool Airport and Liverpool South Parkway such as the Airlink 500, the 80A and the 86A. Connecting services to the rest of the UK are available at Liverpool Lime Street, Liverpool’s main railway station. 



Regular buses run between Liverpool Lime Street and Liverpool Airport. The main, and fastest, bus service is the Airlink 500.



Taxis are available from outside of Liverpool Airport terminal. All taxis can carry at least 5 passengers, are wheelchair accessible, and accept card payments. The journey from Liverpool Airport to Liverpool usually takes around 30 minutes.
