There are five car hire companies with desks at Aalborg Airport: Avis, Budget, Hertz, Europcar and Sixt. All of the desks are inside the terminal, so you don’t need to go far to pick up your car.
Petrol stations near Aalborg Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
Luckily there is a Shell garage just 10 minutes from Aalborg Airport. Head east on Lufthavnsvej, taking the 1st exit at the roundabout. Turn left onto Viaduktvej then rights onto Lindholmsvej. Take a left at Ostergade Route 180 and the petrol station will be on the right hand side.
Driving around Aalborg Airport
Aalborg Airport is well connected to the region’s main roads. The E45 connects Aalborg with Randers and Aarhus to the south and to Aalborg city centre and Frederikshaven to the north. The E39 links Aalborg with Hirtshals in the north and to roads linking with the west of the country.

It takes just 50 minutes to reach Rubjerg Knude by car from Aalborg Airport. Head east on Lufthavnsvej and follow signs to Route 55. Come off Route 55 at Lønstrupvej then turn right into Rubergvej. A final left onto Fryvejen will take you to the dunes.
The most northerly town in Denmark, Skagen is a thriving fishing port with a beautiful harbour perfect for relaxing or boating in the long summer months. The lighthouse boasts stunning views of the coast while a museum, local shops and blissful while sandy beaches complete with migrating dunes are just a few of the town’s must see sights.
From Aalborg Airport it is just over an hour’s drive north to Skagen. Head east on Lufthavnsvej taking the third exit at the roundabout for Route 55, then the first exit to Route 11. Follow signs for the E39, coming off on Route 597. Follow this until you get to Route 40 and following signs to Skagen.
Lively Aalborg is a great destination for all the family with a zoo, castle, modern art museum and some very fine renaissance architecture to admire. It is also home to Lille Vildmose, Europe’s largest raised bog which is home to a wonderful wildlife exhibition and cafe. From carnivals and bicycles to open air pools and local markets, Aalborg is ideal for a weekend away.
Aalborg is just a 15 minute drive from the airport. Head east on Lufthavnsvej and following signs for Route 55. From there get on to Route 180 and follow signs for Aalborg city centre.
There is some free on street parking in Aalborg down the smaller side streets and also metered on-street parking. The city also has a good selection of car parks, shopping centre parking and multi-storey parking at reasonable long and short term rates. Some hotels in Aalborg also offer free parking.
