Where to hire a car at Albany Airport
There are two car hire companies with desks at Albany Airport: Budget and Avis. Both of the desks are inside the terminal, so you don’t need to go far to pick up your car.
Petrol stations near Albany Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
Luckily there is a BP garage on the airport site and also a Caltex Woolworth petrol station located just a 10 minutes drive from Albany Airport. To find the Caltex, simply head southwest out of the airport onto Route 30, turning right onto National Route 1. The petrol station will be on the left hand side.
Driving around Albany Airport
Albany Airport is well connected to the region’s main roads. The main highway 30 cuts through the airport going south to Albany itself and then stretching far north all the way to Perth on the west coast. Smaller roads link Albany Airport with Ocean Beach, Peaceful Bay and Windy Harbour along the south west coast and east to the Ravensthorpe and its many surrounding national parks.

Perth is a 4 hour drive from Albany Airport. From Route 30 continue until you reach Route 14, the Armidale Road. Stay on this road until you merge with State Route 2 towards Fremantle. Take the exit to Hay Street towards the city centre then turn right onto Mounts Bay Road.
Torndirrup National Park
Torndirrup National Park, along Frenchman Bay Road may be less than a twenty minute drive out of town but its dramatic and beautiful coastline filled with extraordinary sights from 'the Gap,' 'the Natural Bridge and 'the Blowholes' to 'Peak Head’ make it seem like you’re in another world. Breath-taking views are guaranteed from the Stoney Hill Heritage Trail which is a walker’s paradise. Don’t forget to take a dip at the beautiful Elephant Rocks and Green Pool for safe swimming nestled on a magical coastal landscape.
Torndirrup National Park is just a 20 minute drive from Albany Airport. Head southwest onto Route 30 keeping left then taking the fourth exit onto Hanrahan Road to Emu Point. Take a right at Frenchman Bay Road and follow signs for the park.
Albany is the ideal place for a spot of whale watching with humpback whales frequently popping up alongside sightseeing boats. July and August are the best times to see them. Rich with both Aboriginal and European history Albany is also an ideal fishing destination thanks to its wonderful Mediterranean climate. Enjoy wine tasting and swimming in botanic lakes, boating on the King George Sound or visiting the old convict gaol museum. Summers bring classic car races, coastal walks and scuba diving off in the clear blue sea. Walkers and hikers will be in their element walking the 1,000 kilometre Bibbulmun Track.
It takes just 15 minutes to reach Albany city centre by car from the airport. Head southwest towards Route 30 following it to Emu Point. Take the third roundabout exit onto York Street then the first exit onto Grey Street. Follow signs to the city centre.
There is a range of parking available in Albany from street parking to public car parks. Rates vary depending on the area and type of car park. All caravan parks and many hotels in Albany also offer free parking.
