Where to hire a car in Billings Airport
There are 8 car hire companies available to use in Billings Logan Airport. This includes Alamo, Enterprise, Thrifty, Avis, Dollar, Hertz, National and Budget. The car rental offices are located just outside of baggage claim.
Petrol stations close to Billings Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
The closest ‘gas’ station is just 7 minutes away from the airport. Take the third exit on the roundabout leaving the airport, as if you were driving to Billings. Take a sharp right on Rimrock Road, and continue until you see the left for 17th S Street. Continue down the street and the gas station will be on your left.
There’s also a petrol station off of Highway 212, as well as several within the centre of Billings. It’s pretty easy to find somewhere to fill up your tank prior to returning your car.
Driving around Billings Airport
Billings Airport is just north of the city of Billings. This is a popular destination for travellers on road trip in this part of the US, due to it’s proximity to the National Parks. Highway 212 connects Billings with Yellowstone and the state of North Dakota. Route 90 also takes you straight through to Table Mountain, as well as a few other areas of natural beauty.
Popular destinations to drive to from Billings Logan Airport
This is one of the most well known National Parks in the U.S, famous for it’s hot geysers and rock climbing. You will need a pass to enter the National Park, available to purchase on entry.
It’s just a 2.5 hour drive to Yellowstone National Park. To get there, head through Billings on Route 3, and join Highway 212 heading south. Merge onto the L-90 and take the exit for Red Lodge, driving for 180km south. This is where you reach the border of Montana and Wyoming. Continue along this road to move into Yellowstone and find your accommodation.
The city of Billings is the largest in the state of Montana, playing a happy host to the trekkers and travellers coming through the airport as well as a number of Montana University buildings. It’s also the county seat of Yellowstone County.
To reach Billings, all you have to do is follow the signs from the airport down towards the city. Take the third exit on the roundabout from the airport, merging onto the MT-3. This will take you down into the city. It’s pretty easy to find parking within the city, either on the street or in a multi-story.
Natural Bridge State Park
This is another epic Natural Park, perfect for renting out a cabin in and exploring the great outdoors. The park is 2 hours from Billings.
To reach Natural Bridge State Park, you’ll need to drive into the centre of Billings and take the L-90 West. Continue south on this road for around 170km, taking exit 370 for Big Timber. Follow the road through Big Timber to reach State Highway 398 towards Natural Bridge State Park.
