Driving around Budapest Airport

Budapest Airport is well connected to the region’s main roads. There are 5 motorways and 4 main roads; eight start from Budapest (except for road No. 8). For the M1, M3, M5, M6 and M7 you will need to purchase a sticker which is available at border crossing points and at petrol stations. From the city centre, the Ferihegy High Speed Road Route 4 gives access from Budapest Airport to the city centre in 20 minutes. The airport is also just off Route M5/E60, which connects Budapest to Szeged.

Balaton

Lake Balaton is Europe’s largest, shallowest body of water where everyone within a 50 mile radius comes to holiday in the summer months. As well as being a prime spot for swimming, sunbathing, picnicking and all manner of watersport it is also a beautiful destination for walking, hiking, horse-riding and cycling. Lush, vine-filled forests surround the lake leading to dense forested hills and a hill-top fairytale castle. Cute farmhouses, relics of the Ottoman past, fabulous museums and vineyards where wine buffs can taste to their heart’s content.

Lake Balaton is an hour and a half drive by car from Budapest Airport. Get on to toll road route 4 and take the exit for the E71/M1. Take the M7 exit for Lake Balaton, merging on to the M7. Take exit 130 and follow signs to Balaton.

Visegrad

Located on the bend of the mighty Danube, Visegrád, meaning ‘high castle’ is a historic reminder of Hungary’s opulent past. Its 13th century citadel and Renaissance Palace afford spectacular views across the stunning landscape which is perfect for hiking, cycling, walking and even some high octane zip-lining.

It takes just over an hour to reach Visegrad by car from Budapest Airport .Get on to route 4 from the airport and merge with the toll section. Take the exit for the E71/M3 and keep left on to the M0. Exit at route 11 and follow signs for Visegrad.

Budapest

Exotic, artistic, architecturally stunning and historically fascinating Budapest lies in a truly unique setting; divided in two by the powerful Danube. From its towering castle to its jaw-dropping parliament building to its luxurious spas and tantalising cake shops, there is much to admire in Budapest. The Jewish Quarter harks back to the country’s darker days but also boasts some of the city’s best nightspots. The green paradise of City Park is surrounded by the best museums and monuments. It takes just 30 minutes by car to reach Budapest from the airport. Get on to route 4 from the airport and keep left following signs for Budapest city centre.

Parking in Budapest is available on-street, charged from Monday to Friday between 8am to 6pm and costs 430 HUF per hour. On Saturday’s and Sunday’s parking is free. There is a maximum parking time of 3-4 hours depending on the location. Parking in the Castle District is more expensive. There are also plenty of secure car parks across the city and some hotels in Budapest offer free car parking.
