Where to hire a car at Entebbe Airport
You can hire a car from Europcar, Hertz and Auto Car at Entebbe Airport. Super Shuttle international also have a branch at Entebbe Airport, so you can hire people carriers as well as smaller vehicles.
Petrol stations close at Entebbe Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
The closest petrol station is 7 minutes away from the airport. Head north when you leave the airport and at the roundabout take the first exit onto Airport Road. Continue for 5km then turn left and left again for the Shell Station.
Driving around at Entebbe Airport
There is very little around Entebbe Airport as it’s based on a gulf. As soon as you exit the airport, you’ll come into Entebbe town, and you’re also within driving distance of the beaches.
Entebbe Airport is connected to Kampala, the capital of Uganda, and from there you can easily reach many other places within Uganda.
When in Uganda, you’ll find many ‘matutus’ on the road – small minibuses. Be wary if you’re next to these on the roads as they can occasionally drive haphazardly. When it’s exceedingly dry, you will need air conditioning, as the roads get extremely dusty.
Not all roads in Uganda are developed, and not all regions are safe for travellers either. Research the FCO warnings prior to arriving and renting a car in Uganda. It’s generally easy to find a parking space in the major towns and cities, but you will need to leave your car in a secure car park if you’re renting from one of the car hire branches.
Popular destinations to drive to from Entebbe Airport
Entebbe is a major town in Uganda, sitting on the edge of Lake Victoria. It’s position to the airport, Kampala and the Lake means it’s quite a practical place to stay in Uganda, and the Botanical gardens are a main attraction here too.
When you exit the Airport, head north onto Airport road and continue into Entebbe. It takes less than 10 minutes to reach the town.
Kampala is the colourful capital of Uganda. It’s a popular place to stay if you’re about to head out to anywhere else in Uganda, as it’s the largest city in the country.
It takes an hour to reach the city. Drive north out of the airport onto Airport Road. Continue on the Kampala- Entebbe Road, and Wankulukuku Road to Kampala for 44km.
Jinja is regarded as a city for adventurers and thrill seekers, due to it’s location on the Nile. It’s a popular place for white water rafting, and bungee jumping.
Jinja is 2 hours from Entebbe International Airport. To reach Jinja, continue on the Kampala – Entebbe Road for 33km, to Namulanda. Continue onto Kampala. Drive along Katwe and Jinja Road for another 15km, then continue onto Kireka Road. Once you have reached the A109, it’s a straight drive to Jinja.
