Petrol stations close at Genoa Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
There is a petrol station to your right as you leave the airport, however if this one is not available, there’s an Esso just 4 minutes away. Follow Via Pionieri a Aviatori d’Italia, keeping on the right to keep on the SS1. The destination will be on Via Cornigliano.
Driving around at Genoa Airport
Genoa Airport sits on the coast of the Ligurian Sea, to the left of Genoa. It’s well connected to the rest of northern Italy with the E62 and the E25. The E80 takes you around the coast of Genoa.
The airport isn’t difficult to drive around if you know that the roads are fairly typical of Italy – some are newer, and easier to navigate, whereas some are small, windy, and need a little extra care.
Popular destinations to drive to from Genoa Airport
There’s something about Genoa. This gritty old town might be a little rough around the edges, having always been a major port city, however it still oozes with Italian architecture, the empiric influence of Piedmont and an artistic Renaissance vibe.
It can be very difficult to drive within Genoa, and it’s generally advised against. Occasionally there are road closures for large parts of the town, so check with your car rental provider before you set off.
It’s only 15 minutes to reach Genoa rom the airport. Get onto Follow Via Pionieri a Aviatori d’Italia when leaving the airport, to get onto the SS1. Follow the SS1 to reach Viale Paolo Thaon di Revel for 9km. Then, turn left onto Viale Paolo Thaon di Revel into Genoa.
Piedmont & Turin
Piedmont is a stunning rural area in northern Italy, known for it’s slopes and it’s cuisine. It’s almost 2 hours to reach the region from the airport, but it’s a stunning drive and definitely a road trip to consider.
The route does contain toll roads. Use the E80 to get out of Genoa, and then follow the E25 and E70 for 166km north, towards Allessandria. Piedmont is just outside of Turin – one of Italy’s foodie capitals!
Alessandria is in south Piedmont, but the town is a destination in itself. The 18th Century palaces and piazzas are still in great condition, with many abbeys, churches and castles to visit too.
It takes less than an hour to reach Alessandria. Follow Via Pioniera e Aviatori d’Italia to merge onto E80, then merge onto the E25 via the SP185 to get on the road to Alessandria. Take exit SP185 from the SS30 to reach Alessandria.
