Petrol stations close at George Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
There is a petrol station is town, however there aren’t any outside of the airport. Turn left onto the R404 when you exit the airport, then turn right onto the R102 into George. Turn left again at the next crossroads, and the petrol station will be on your left after 1km. There are plenty of other petrol stations in George too if this one is unavailable.
Driving around at George Airport
George Airport is a small airport based just to the west of George. The city is well connected to the rest of the coast with Highway 2, and Route 12 takes you in land too. George is a popular airport for travelers wanting to explore the Garden Route of the western cape.
When driving in South Africa, it Is recommended that you travel with a walkie talkie if you’re going in land, as travellers often underestimate travel time. It’s essential that you can be found if you do happen to break down. Make sure you’re insured for break down when you rent your car. The roads also change drastically depending on where you want to drive to, changing form mountainous areas to long desert roads.

Although George has a historical past, the current city centre is a hub for business and commerce. The George Shopping Mall is perfect for picking up anything you need before you head on a roadtrip around the Garden Route too.
To get into George, turn left on the R404 when exiting the airport, then turn right at the next cross roads onto the R102. Head either left or right on York Street to get into the town.

This is another big pitstop on the Garden Route in South Africa. Mossel Bay is one of the most historic points on the coast, as it was where the Europeans first met the indigenous people of South Africa. Mossel Bay is 30 minutes away from Mossel Bay.
Turn right onto the R404 when you leave the airport, then follow the road onto the N2. Follow this road for 38km, then take exit 387 from the N2. Turn left onto the R102 to head into the township of Mossel Bay.
‘Plett’, as it’s locally town, is a beautiful beachside town on the coast of the Western Cape. Plettenberg Bay is an hour and 20 minutes from the town of George.
Turn right onto the R404 to merge onto the N2, heading east. Take the right exit onto the N2, and continue on the N2. You’ll be heading through some of South Africa’s most beautiful coast line on this road! When you come to Plettenberg Bay, take the exit from the N2 onto Marine Way.
