Where to hire a car at Mykonos Airport
Avis, Hertz and Sixtie have a number of small vehicles to rent from Mykonos Airport. There isn’t a huge variety, as on this small island you only need a little vehicle to get from one beach to the next.
Petrol stations close at Mykonos Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
There are two petrol stations to use as you approach the airport. The first is north of the airport, found on Epar.Od. Mikonou road, heading towards Klouvas. The second is found to the south of the town, called ‘Eko’. Turn right as you leave the airport, continuing straight until you see the roundabout. At this point, take the third exit and continue straight down.
Driving around at Mykonos Airport
Many people choose to rent a car in Mykonos as it’s the best way to see the island, unprohibited by the lack of public transport. It’s generally easy to find free parking wherever you are, however it can get very busy in Mykonos town and around major attractions. The roads vary in quality, occasionally they’re small, narrow and windy, and will require extra care to navigate.
Popular destinations to drive to from Mykonos Airport
Mykonos Town is amazing for nightlife, shopping, eating and relaxing. It’s the perfect hub for travellers young and old, as it has such a happy, friendly vibe.
It’s relatively easy to reach the Old Town of Mykonos. As you exit the airport, turn right onto the main road and continue straight, proceeding straight through the roundabouts to continue to Mykonos. Continue straight onto Axioti to reach the centre.
Kalafati is one of the oldest resort towns in Mykonos, with a bright white beach and beautiful bay area. There are plenty of hotels here, ranging from the budget to the luxury. It’s also a popular spot with windsurfers thanks to the strong coastal winds.
It takes 20 minutes to get to Kalafati. Turn right when leaving the airport, then turn right again at the fourth turn off. Turn right when you reach Epar.Od. Mikonou-Ano Merias and continue on this road for 6km, following the signs for Kalafati.
This is a small province in the north west of Mykonos, best known for it’s lighthouse. The accommodation here is better suited for those who want to escape and spend some time appreciating Mykonos’ more rugged, northern beauty.
Turn right when leaving the airport, and continue towards Mykonos. When you reach the roundabout, take the first exit and continue on Epar.Od. Ormou Agiou Ioanni-Agiou Stefanou road for 5km. Continue north to reach the small towns and view points of Faros Armenistis.
