Where to hire a car at Santorini Airport
There are 3 car rental companies at Santorini Airport: Hertz, Europcar and Budget. The offices are located on the Arrivals level of the main terminal. There’s a small variety of different cars that you’ll find suitable for any holiday in Santorini.
Petrol stations close at Santorini Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
There are 2 petrol stations located nearby in the town of Karteraderos. To get to Karteraderos, continue to Mesaria when you leave the airport, then turn right on the main road to reach the petrol station. It will be on your right after a few hundred metres.
Driving around at Santorini Airport
Santorini is near Kamari village, and closeby to Monolithos. The airport is located on the east of the island, and it’s connected to the port on the other side of the island with a number of shuttle buses. The roads of Santorini are generally good, albeit occasionally small and narrow. Extra care should be taken on country roads where there may be more pot holes and road damage.
Popular destinations to drive to from Santorini Airport
Perissa is one of the volcanic southern beaches in Santorini. It’s black, similar to Kamari, and there’s a plethora of underwater activities to try in this area. There is also a number of hotels in this area, many of which are suitable for families and couples.
The easiest way to reach the south is by head straight onto the main road towards Mesaria when you leave the airport. Turn left onto the main road heading south towards Megalochori, and continue on this road towards Perissa.
Kamari is a small coastal hideaway beneath Santorini airport. It’s known for it’s black sandy beach, bars, and ancient ruins. Spend a few days here nibbling on fresh fish and taking in the sights.
Head straight out of the airport, and take the first left onto Epar.Od. Mesarias-Archeas Thiras. Continue on this road to reach Kamari.
Thera is the main town in Santorini, in the northwest of the island. It’s characterized by its decks of snowy white houses, spectacular cliffs and stunning blue waters. It’s a very popular destination for all types of traveller; whether you’re here with little kids or big ones.
It takes about 25 minutes to reach Thera. Head straight out of the airport and head towards Vothonas. When you come up to the main crossroads in the town, turn right to head towards the northern coast. Continue on this road to reach Thera and the main strip of hotels.
