Where to hire a car at Lisbon Airport
There are eight car hire companies located in the grounds of Lisbon Airport: Goldcar, Avis, Hertz, Thrifty, Budget, Europecar and Sixt. All of the companies are located within the grounds of the airport, so you don’t need to go far to pick up your car.
Petrol stations near Lisbon Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
Luckily there is no need to worry about finding somewhere to fill your car with petrol before dropping it off. There are several petrol stations close to the airport. The nearest is a BP service station located on the last roundabout before you reach the airport. When coming in to the airport from the on the A37/IP19, take the second exit from the 2nd Circular and go all the way around at to reach the BP petrol station entrance. Once you've filled up, go back to the roundabout and take the exit for rent-a-car. From there, it's the third exit to the rental car area.
Driving around Lisbon Airport
Lisbon Airport is conveniently located on the 2nd Circular, a highway north of the city centre. It is the capital of Portugal and therefore easy to access from many major roads in the area including the A37, A,1 A2 and A12. The airport is well sign-posted and there are several ways to get there. As you approach the airport signs for 'aeroporto chegadas' mean arrivals while 'aeroporto partidas' means departures.

It takes just under half an hour to reach Sintra from Lisbon Airport. Simply get on the 2nd Circular road from the airport, drive along the A37 heading west to Av. Berlim. Take exit 8 onto the A16 and follow the signs for Sintra.

Alicante Airport is around 40 minutes away from Torrevieja, both by the toll road (AP-7) and the free road (N-332). In fact, the N road is slightly quicker. During high season it can be near impossible to find parking on the side-streets near the beaches, but there are two large car parks which you have to pay to use. Make sure you reserve a hotel with car parking included.

The centre of Lisbon is only 15 minutes drive from Lisbon Airport. Just get on the R Febo Moniz, wet to the Av Berlim, take the 3rd exit at the roundabout and continue on to the Alameda das Comiunicades Portuguesas. Get on to the Santa Barbara and Paco da Rainha to Largo Mitelo in the centre of Lisbon. Most parking in Lisbon is charged. Just look for the metre and pay for the amount of time you will need, displaying the ticket in your car. Charging is enforced from Monday to Friday, between 8am and 8pm during the week and 8am to 6pm on Saturdays. Yellow or red signs painted on the floor indicate forbidden parking. It is illegal to park in front of garage doors. Some hotels in Lisbon offer car parking; usually this costs extra but is occasionally free.
