Where to hire a car at Liverpool Airport
There are five car hire companies with desks at Liverpool Airport: Budget, Europecar, Easirent, Avis and Hertz. All of the desks are inside the terminal, with Enterprise located just outside the terminal, so you don’t need to go far to pick up your car.
Petrol stations near Liverpool Airport
Depending on your car rental agreement, you may need to hand your car back with a full tank.
There is no need to worry about filling your hire car with petrol before returning it as there are several garages in the area. The nearest 24 hour petrol station is the Shell garage. Just head south from the airport on Speke Hall Avenue, take the 5th exit at the roundabout, then the third exit at the next roundabout and turn right onto Hillfoot Avenue where the Shell Garage will be on the left.
Driving around Liverpool Airport
Liverpool Airport is very conveniently located within the Merseyside road network and is very close to the M57, M62 and M56 motorways and to major cities like Manchester and Birmingham. From the north/northeast access is via the M6, from the south/southeast it is via the M56 and from the Wirrall and North Wales the M53 and M56 are best.

Southport is located just 50 minutes north of Liverpool Airport. Take Speke Hall Road out of the airport, onto Western Avenue and Speke Boulevard. From here, follow signs for the M57 to Damfield. Continue on the A5147 then take New Cut Lane to Lord Street into Southport.
Get lost in the stunning Tudor and Victorian architecture of the old town of Chester. Enjoy its beautiful river with a cruise or simply a pint by the riverside in summer, or enjoy elegant retail therapy in Chester’s iconic shopping arcades.
Chester is just 40 minutes from Liverpool Airport. Take Speke Hall Avenue, then Western Avenue to Speke Boulevard. Continue to the M56 and finally onto Upper Northgate Street into the city centre.

Liverpool Airport is located less than 10 miles from the city centre and can be reached by car in under 30 minutes. Head south on Speke Hall Avenue, take the A561, Riverside Drive, then Sefton Street and on to the A5046 to the city centre. Car parking in the city of Liverpool is easy as there are numerous parking facilities available in and around the city centre. On and off street parking operates on a pay and display basis. Liverpool has over 1500 on-street parking spaces in the city centre. Charging hours are between 8am and 6pm, seven days a week. In the heart of the city charges are £1 per half an hour with a maximum parking time of two hours. In the outer zone, charges are 70 pence for half an hour and a maximum parking time of 2 hours. NCP and off street parking does not have such limited parking times and is cheaper. Some hotels in Liverpool have car parking; usually this costs extra but is occasionally free.
