Getting to your destination

We’ve put together a quick guide on getting to the most popular destinations from Zante Airport.

It is well worth making the trip by ferry from Zakynthos to the town of Kyllini to visit the UNESCO wold heritage site of Olympia in the Peloponnese – the site of the first ever Olympic Games in 776 BC and a spectacular and ancient site in its own right. The ferry docks at the small but beautiful port of Katakolo from where you can explore the nearby town of Katakolo before seeing Olympia. The flame for every Olympic Games is still lit in Olympia to this day.
It takes around two and a half hours to reach Olympia from Zante Airport. Head south from the airport and follow the road to the ferry terminal where you catch the ferry to Killini. This takes approximately an hour and a half. From Killini get on to Glarentza and continue on to the E55 following signs for the heritage site of Olympia.

It would take a million more words to write about all of Athens’s archaeological, historic and architectural treasures. Greece’s crowning glory of a city is now a beguiling patchwork of old and new, ancient and ultra-modern. Cars are banished from the historic centre which now boasts Europe’s longest, and most gorgeous, pedestrian promenade. Athens has soul and a streetlife to match. After a day of jaw-dropping photo stops like the Acropolis, it is time to enjoy life alfresco. From cafes and bars and amphitheatres serenading visitors with open-air opera to the mouth-watering cuisine served under the stars – this is one hedonistic and at the same time, relaxing capital.
Athens can be reached by car and ferry in five hours. Head south from the airport and the ferry terminal to take the boat to Killini. Once in Killini, get on the E55 and follow signs for Athens city centre.

Floating in the azure Ionian Sea, the Island of Zante radiates natural beauty. The scent of citrus fruits wafts over the rolling hills and olive groves. Lush green vineyards give way to thick pine forests, poppy filled meadows and ribbons of soft sandy beach lapped by radiant turquoise waters. Here there are 24-hour party resorts as well as an astonishing array of wildlife. A spot of scuba diving reveals dolphins, seals and a bounty of colourful marine life. Active sorts can pothole in the Blue Caves or try their hand at windsurfing and jet skiing. More laid back types can soak up the sun on one of the many stunning beaches. The Byzantine Museum uncovers the island’s history with an incredible scale model of old Venetian Zante town, before it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1953.
It takes just 10 minutes to reach Zante town from the airport. Head south from the airport and follow signs to the town centre.
In Zante there are not many restrictions on parking. If you park in a taxi area this is probably the worst offence you can commit on the island. There is the odd No Parking sign but generally parking is a 'free for all' and anywhere you can get your car can be used. Many hotels in Zante-hotels.html) also offer free parking.
