It would take a million more words to write about all of Athens’s archaeological, historic and architectural treasures. Cars are banished from the historic centre which now boasts Europe’s longest, and most gorgeous, pedestrian promenade. Athens has soul and a streetlife to match. After a day of jaw-dropping photo stops like the Acropolis, it is time to enjoy life alfresco. From cafes and bars and amphitheatres serenading visitors with open-air opera to the mouth-watering cuisine served under the stars – this is one hedonistic and at the same time, relaxing capital.
Athens can be reached by car and ferry in five hours. Head south from the airport and the ferry terminal to take the boat to Killini. Once in Killini, get on the E55 and follow signs for Athens city centre.
