Where to rent a car in Delhi

As expected with capital cities, India's Delhi (or New Delhi) is littered with several car rental companies that can be used by travellers who are looking for rental cars. They are mainly concentrated near Connaught Palace, Chanakyapuri, La Ipat Nagar, the Shahadara area, or even through the Indira Gandhi Airport. These companies provide economical cars up to top-of-the-line luxury cars, which can all be accessed and rented by drivers and travellers who are willing to pay for some additional cash (even if the Metro here is relatively efficient). Some of the local transport services include Bhavya Holidays, Pusa Road, Travel ChaCha, Delhi Car Rentals, and others. From the airport, the main rental company is 3Click Car hire. The presence of international car hire agencies is unconfirmed here.

When renting cars, make sure to pay for the correct costs, as locals tend to beef up the price to double or even triple the rates. Ask for any issues on the cars as well, and make sure that there are complete equipment here.

What to expect when renting a car from Delhi

Delhi is a large place and can be daunting to drive – especially in the central business district, where traffic is just too heavy even on off-peak hours. Local drivers are quite discriminatory and mean too; usually, cars are driven by the men here. Some even break the international standards on driving manners, so always watch your head and tail here. Some of the roads here are not in best condition, and some are even under construction, so if you're going to a meeting and planning on being late or just providing exact times for your travel, you probably should pack a few more minutes as allowance. Roads on weekends are almost always as busy as weekdays here – so don't be surprised.

Getting to your destination

Red Fort
One of Delhi's top tourist destinations, Red Fort is a brilliant red fort built by Shah Jahan, which now houses many historical and government buildings. Opulent, beautiful, and breathtaking, Red Fort is a must visit place.

To check on the Red Fort, head out through the Firoz Shah Road and through the Sikandra Road Towards the Mahatma Gandhi Marg ant then turn to the Nishad Raj Marg where the entrance to the fort can be found.

South Delhi
Visit the more swanky areas of Delhi, go to South Delhi, where many upscale hotels, shopping malls, and restaurants can be found. It also houses the Qutab minar, a major tourist attraction in the city. Opulent, beautiful, and breathtaking, Red Fort is a must visit place.

Head to South Delhi by taking Rajpath to Krishna Menon Marg towards the Mehrauli Badarpur Road to Cariappa Marg in Block J. Continue on to Cariappa Marg to the destination in Block E.

Old Delhi
From the swanky comes to the more economical Old Delhi, the old capital of the country before the British has set up New Delhi. Old Delhi is where travellers may get their feet wet – it is the main area to rub elbows with the locals and experience daily living here. Although not very picturesque – we do want to experience the real deal, yes?

Reach Old Delhi by driving towards Raisina Road and on to Firoz Shah Road to the Chawri Bazar Road. At the Roundabout, take the third exit to continue to the Chawri Bazar Road towards the Nai Sarak Marg and Kinari Bazar Road, all the way to central old Delhi. Old Delhi is incidentally near to the Red Fort, so you may want to consider hitting two birds with one stone here.
