It's formally known as Franz Josef Strauß Airport, and it's located 29km northeast of Munich. How to get to Munich from Munich Airport
There are easy train and bus services to Munich city centre from the airport. The train takes 20 minutes, but road services take around 45 minutes.
There are 2 lines on the S Bahn to the city centre that depart every 10 minutes from Munich's Flughafen Station (ground floor of the airport). A one way ticket on this will cost you €3.30, however, if you have a stopover in Munich the Airport-City-Day ticket will get you around town and back to the airport for €12.40. The bus costs €10.50 for a single to the city centre, and €17 for a return ticket. A taxi will set you back around €50 to get to Munich, and you can catch these right outside of the arrivals hall. When to go to Munich
We don't need to tell you this – Oktoberfest is in October every year, and it's one of the best times to be in Munich whether you drink beer or not. However, it's extremely crowded and you will need to book in advance if you want to stay in the city centre.
Alternatively, come during summer to see the best side of Germany's weather. It regularly hits the high twenties, and the parks fill with locals and travellers enjoying the sunshine. It's not uncommon to see the Germans taking to the rivers and lakes for a swim during summer, so join in!
December in Munich is pretty spectacular, due to the Christmas Markets. You can easily spend a weekend hopping between pubs, eating bratwurst and drinking too much gluhwein in the outdoor markets.
