Airports in Newquay

Newquay Airport is the main airport to fly into for visitors to Newquay and Cornwall – so yes, it can get busy in summer. It's located 7km outside of Newquay on the north coast. St Austell is on the south coast, and Penzance and Falmouth are much further southwest. The best way to get around is by car, as this allows you to get to all the beautiful beaches!

Alternatively, the other way to get to the city is by the No. 56 bus. This starts at 7am and runs hourly until 6.30pm during high season. A taxi is another cheap and easy way to get to the city centre – it costs just £20 to get to Newquay from the Airport. Although taxis are available at the taxi rank, it's recommended that you prebook in peak season.

When to go to Newquay

Newquay's surfing competitions all occur during June, July and August, and as you can tell this is when the city is the most fun. The bars and clubs are open until the early hours, and they're usually filled with happy surfers, travellers and beach bums. If you wait until August, you'll be able to catch the Boardmasters Festival – an open air music festival for surfers (and normal folks too!).

The school holiday crowds also descend once July hits, but if you can get to Newquay in May, you'll be treating to sunny spells and a less crowded Fistral Beach!
