Easy drive from Dubai (4-5 hours). V family friendly. Suitable base camp for exploring the region esp Jabal Shams and Jabal Akhadar and several towns thereabouts

Nizwa was known in the days of the Yoruba Dynasties as the Pearl of Islam. These days Islamic scholars are far outnumbered by the European tourists lured in by tales of genies at the haunted castle of Bahla, the mountain oasis'es at Misbah and Jebel Akhdar(the Arabian Peninsula's highest peak) and the towered forts of Jibreen and Nizwa (murder doors and all) - evocative remnants of a fearsome past of rebellion, isolation and superstition.

Attractive town with a nice fort and souq. An easy stop on the way to Jebel Shams.
