Wow, we didn't even know about this place when we went to Krakow, but then we decided to take the city bus out to this UNESCO World Heritage site. We walked down 378 steps to get into the salt mine, then walked for a 1 1/2 miles under the ground. This place is amazing! The Polish miners were very religious (Catholic) and they carved many statues and even an entire chapel out of salt! It is really beautiful and lit so wonderfully. At the end of the tour you can opt to walk another mile or so, but to get out you take the miner's elevator. Squished in there like sardines, it is an experience you will not forget, and you will forever remember the value of salt, which was once very valuable and expensive! If you are ever in Krakow, this is definitely a place that you should visit!
