A town with an awesome name, Wilderness is a famous stop on the Garden Route of the Western Cape, a town that for all its popularity remains a lovely and relaxed place. With a beautiful seashore (beware the currents), a meandering river to canoe and swim in, and some wonderful short hikes in the Wilderness National Park, it's a wonderfully chilled little town in a pretty setting, with a wealth of activities (including tandem paragliding over the amazing landscape). Well worth a stop on your route along the coast.
Wilderness is a welcome retreat from its noisy neighbours along the coast and attracts many people because of its chilled atmosphere. It's also home to the iconic Kaaiman’s River railway bridge, that passes its way over the ocean and snakes its way around the rocky cliff face. It doesn't have as much to offer as nearby Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, however, will reward those visitors that give it a chance and enjoy its fine beaches for a couple of days.
Beautiful, peaceful and serene...
