The ancient city of Aleppo is a fascinating place. Narrow alley way streets, covered souks (markets), impressive mosques, high ramparts, this territory has been at the crossroads of several trade routes since the 2nd millennium B.C. Sadly, today it is in danger with the constant threat of attack during the Syrian Civil War. History runs deep here. Aleppo was ruled successively by the Hittites, Assyrians, Akkadians, Greeks, Romans, Umayyads, Ayyubids, Mameluks and Ottomans, all who left some stamp on the city. We can only hope this city becomes safe someday for residents and tourists alike.
I remember a nice temple in the middle of desert, nearby an holy mountain. Hope i didn't mixed up the places...
