Terminal Information – Departing
Knock Airport is 126 miles from the centre of Dublin and is convenient to reach by car. Local shuttle buses transfer passengers to nearby Charlestown where more comprehensive transport links can be found. The famous Knock Shrine is just a 20 minute drive from the airport. Car hire is also available from the airport.
Inside the very small Knock Airport there is free Wi-Fi internet, currency exchange services, several shops, a newsagents and a selection of restaurants. There are baby changing facilities, cash machines and a lounge area.
Terminal Information – Arriving
Alicante Airport is just 5 miles from Alicante and can be reached by car and public transport. The C6 public bus runs every 20 minutes to and from Alicante central bus station, taking just 20 minutes and costing €3.85* for a single fare. Taxis and car hire are also available for the airport terminal. A taxi would cost from €20*.
Inside Alicante Airport there are cash machines and currency exchange points, 15 minutes of free Wi-Fi internet, several cafes, bar, restaurants and even an ice cream parlour. There is a newsagents, tobacconists, a deli, fashion boutiques, gift shops and an electronics retailer. There are also three duty-free shopping areas. There are baby changing facilities, car parking and car hire.
You need your passport with you when you’re flying out with the UK. There are printers in the check-in area of KnockAirport, so there is no need to panic if you forget to print your boarding pass. If you have a smartphone you can store your boarding card electronically on your phone. Security can scan the e-barcode so you don’t need to worry about paper at all.
We recommend leaving plenty of time at the airport, so try not to arrive any later than one hour before your flight is due to depart. Queues at security are longer at weekends and during school holidays, so it’s worth giving yourself extra time.
What to expect in Alicante
Alicante is a Mediterranean destination in permanent party mode; filled with festivals, nightlife, tapas bars, seafront seafood restaurants and alfresco terraced cafes. Alicante is a place for relaxation, for fun and dancing, for swimming, surfing, diving and sailing off the white soft sandy beaches, for strolling elegant boulevards and rummaging through the boutiques in la Rambla and admiring castles and fortresses.
Alicante’s year round party atmosphere has to be due to its heavenly Mediterranean climate which sees warm weather most of the year. Summers are scorching while winters are mild and still warm enough to enjoy a winter getaway with temperatures up to 16 degrees. September and October can be wet but from June to September the pubs, cafes, clubs and bars are packed every night.
Prices in Alicante are very reasonable from €6* for a three course lunch, €1* for a beer, tapas from €1.50* and from €24* for a dinner for two. Accommodation ranges from camping, holiday homes and B&Bs to luxury hotels and family resorts. Special winter breakfasts can also be bought for just €1.95* during the low season.
