Practical Information

You will need your passport with you when you’re flying out-with the UK. There are printers in the check-in area of KnockAirport, so there is no need to panic if you forget to print your boarding pass. If you have a smartphone you can store your boarding card electronically on your phone. Security can scan the e-barcode so you don’t need to worry about paper at all.

We recommend leaving plenty of time at the airport, so try not to arrive any later than one hour before your flight is due to depart. Queues at security are longer at weekends and during school holidays, so it’s worth giving yourself extra time.

What to expect in Faro

Faro is on the hot and sunny Algarve with its alluring Mediterranean climate! With over 3000 hours of sunshine a year, it is ideal for summer holidays and for escaping to the winter sun.

The town itself is a tranquil spot with a marina, a historic old town and some lovely outdoor cafes for sipping coffee while soaking up the sun. There is a very happening nightlife thanks to a large student population but this can be swapped for theatre and museums, stunning national parks. Beahes and boat tours to neighbouring islands.

Drinking and eating in the Algarve is very reasonable with a glass of wine costing from €1.50* to €2*, and a draft beer from €1* to €1.50*. It is worth trying the local Port as well as the wine, as the country is famous for it. Fish and seafood are the best food to try in Faro. On average a 2-course meal for 2, including house wine will cost less than €30* but there are plenty of local fast food options too. Accommodation is reasonable too with family hotels, backpacker’s hostels and romantic luxury hotels, which cater for every budget. Prices will be higher in the summer so be warned.
