Terminal Information - Departing
Knock Airport is small and efficient, with only a handful of trips leaving for Ireland and the rest of Europe. Flybe flights leave through the main terminal – you’ll be able to see your check in desk when you arrive!
There’s a small café on the landside of Knock Airport.
They have recently renovated their departures lounge, so now there are a few more shopping options (only the basic necessities though – newsagents, small Duty Free and Bureau de Change!).
There is Wifi, power points and printing kiosks in the airport, should you need to print off your boarding pass.
Terminal Information - Arriving
Manchester is a much bigger place than Claremorris, thus the airport is much bigger too. Flybe operate in Terminal 3 at Manchester Airport.
Terminal 3 is an easy terminal to get in and out of, as it’s the smallest one at Manchester Airport. Typically it’s only small domestic and European carriers based out of this terminal. There’s limited shopping, but there is a café and restaurant to grab a bite to eat. Free Wifi and plugpoints are available too.
To get out of Manchester airport, you have a few easy to reach options: taxi, bus or train. The train is the fastest way to reach the city centre, bus is the cheapest, and car is probably the easiest. There are plenty of car rental branches at Manchester airport too.
You will need a passport for travelling into the UK, but you will not need a visa as an Irish citizen. To make security much smoother, make sure your liquids are under 100ml and packed into a small resealable plastic bag.
Please arrive 60 minutes before your flight from Knock, to allow time for security and boarding. Remember to exchange your Euros into Pounds prior to departing to get the best rate!
What to expect in Manchester
Manchester is currently the second biggest city in the UK, and known as the capital of the North. The city is a far cry from Claremorris in Mayo. Manchester Airport is actually located to the south of the city, so you will have a short journey to reach the centre. It costs about 11 Pounds (€18-19) to reach the city centre via train, but it takes less then €6 if you take the bus.
Here, there are many public transport links to get you round the city, including train, bus and tram routes. It’s generally quite affordable, although you will notice Manchester is much more expensive than Knock.
