Amsterdam Schiphol Departures Information

Schiphol Airport is a single terminal airport located 15km from the city of Amsterdam, it is the main international airport serving The Netherlands. The public area of the airport is the popular Schiphol Plaza, here you will find a wide range of shops, cafes and restaurants. The terminal is divided into three departure halls, after passport control each hall has limited shops including duty free stores and a small choice of places to eat. Free unlimited Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport.

When to check in at Amsterdam Airport?

It is recommended that you arrive at the airport at least three hours before your flight time for Non-Schengen flights and two hours before flights within the Schengen zone. Always confirm this with your airline and leave extra time if you're travelling during peak periods.

Check-in desks are located in the departures halls, and self service kiosks are also available in the Schiphol Plaza. Online check-in is available from most airlines operating flights from Amsterdam Airport with baggage drop off points for hold luggage, closing times vary between airlines so it's important to confirm this in advance.

Amsterdam Schiphol Arrivals Information

There are four Arrivals Areas at Amsterdam Airport all of which exit into the Schiphol Plaza, where there are a wide range of shops, places to eat, perfect for those with time before a flight arrives. Other facilities within the Schiphol Plaza include ATMs, currency exchange counters, a pharmacy, a museum, access to the Schiphol Airport railway station and Car hire desks which can be found in Arrivals Area 3.

The airport has a number of hotels located on site, these include the Mercure Hotel, CitizenM Hotel, Hilton Hotel, and YOTELAIR and a further selection within easy reach of the terminal.

Pick up and drop off at Amsterdam Airport

If you're dropping passengers off at Schiphol Airport you can follow the signs for 'Departures' and drop off passengers outside of the entrance to the airport. This is strictly for dropping off passengers, anyone parking here will be fined.

If you're picking up passengers arriving at Amsterdam Airport you should head to Schiphol Short Stop Parking. This is ideal for those who will be collecting passengers immediately and is located opposite the Arrivals Hall. The first 15 minutes of parking is free of charge then ‎€2 for every 12 minutes thereafter.

If you're going to be staying a little longer then head to the Schiphol Terminal car parks P1 or P2. These are a short walk from the Schiphol Plaza and can be found by following the 'Parking Schiphol Centre' signs. Parking here costs ‎€1 per 12 minutes, up to a maximum daily rate of ‎€33,50.

Where should I park at the airport?

Amsterdam Airport car parks offer both long and short term parking, you can drive up on the day without pre-booking, however booking in advance offers great discounts on your parking fees. Car parks P1 and P2 are less than 2 minutes walk from the airport entrance, Car park P3 is a 5 minute shuttle bus ride from the airport with buses departing every 10 minutes. Valet and Excellence parking are also available and need to be booked in advance.

How to get to and from Amsterdam Airport

Amsterdam Airport has a convenient location just 15km southwest of the city of Amsterdam, and well connected by road and rail to Utrecht 50km away, The Hague 45km away and Rotterdam 60km away.

Amsterdam Airport by car

Amsterdam Airport is located off the A4, from here you can take the A10 into Amsterdam, this will take approximately 20 minutes. Leiden, The Hague and Rotterdam are reached by the A4 heading south and to get to Utrecht head to the A2.

Amsterdam Airport by train

Amsterdam Airport has great rail connections into Amsterdam and key cities in The Netherlands. The Amsterdam Schiphol Train Station is located on the level below the Schiphol Plaza, you will find ticket machines in the Plaza and information booths at station. Train services to Amsterdam Centraal Station depart approximately every 10 minutes with an average journey of 15 minutes. A single ticket is ‎€4,20. Intercity train services are available to The Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht.

Amsterdam Airport by bus/coach

Bus services are ideal for those travelling into Amsterdam's suburbs. There is a bus stop outside the entrance to the Schiphol Plaza. The Amsterdam Airport Express (Line 197) departs every 15 minutes with a journey time of 30 minutes, night services are also available.
The Schiphol Hotel Shuttle departs throughout the day to various hotels throughout Amsterdam.
