COCKROACHES! Staff does not care about the place. AVOID!!

first off, we know we booked a cheap hotel so our expectations were not very high. The rooms are very run down, mold everywhere in the bathroom and rotting wood skirtings and cabinets. Not great but acceptable for that you pay.
But the multiple 5 cm(!) big cockroaches that emerge at night are DISGUSTING. I called the hotel since the reception was closed, and the guy on the other end was very unhelpful. offering no solution whatsoever. The next day, a lady at the reception was not very helpful either saying "these are the tropics, we have insects". A very lousy excuse as normal insects are clearly different from literal pests!
The staff does not seem to care about cockroaches infesting the rooms nor do they care about customer complaints. If the staff cared about the hotel they would have at least fixed the cracks in the flooring where the cockroaches emerge from. Don't bother booking here!

Stayed in a single room, was quite impressed with the layout and how much room there actually was. Very old though although the shower looked new, and had all i needed for a late check in early checkout to catch a flight and for the price. Had a fridge, the bed was comfy enough and there was good lighting. Good location with an onsite indian restaurant or other food options a close walk away. Walls are not sound proof though, i could hear the occupant next door shower, eat dinner and movement which did keep me awake for a while. Would definitely stay there again though. Really like the fact there is car parking and gates get locked at night, good security which is needed in cairns.
