3 Nights on a beautiful farm with the most wonderful hosts

We stayed at Big Bluff for 3 nights recently with our young family. We had initially been booked to travel interstate but had to cancel following the border closure. Looking back, we consider the border shutting a huge blessing in disguise as we would never have found Big Bluff or met Jodie and Wayne otherwise! Right from the outset Jodie and her family were extremely helpful and accommodating of our various questions about the local area and accommodation, but we only really began to realise how lucky we were on arrival.
Our first impression was how cosy our accommodation (Valley View) was and, having arrived hungry, how delicious the warm homemade bread in the welcome basket was, especially accompanied by Wayne’s Passionfruit Butter! After getting settled in for half an hour Wayne and Jodie arrived just before dusk to give us a tour of the farm on their Polaris, which our 3 year old Joey absolutely loved. They are so knowledgeable and passionate about their farm and animals and clearly have a deep connection with the land. They explained that there are no ‘out of bounds’ areas on the farm as such and that none of the animals posed any risk if you used common sense and treated them with respect (except perhaps Cow 23!). There are so many beautiful views to take in on the tour and each ridge and paddock presented a new vista or story. After arriving back at Valley View, we mentioned we would like to use the fire pit and Wayne quickly rushed off to get us some fire wood, a perfect finish to a perfect day.
The next morning, we went for a walk following some of the Polaris tour route, and Joey was fascinated to see all the cows with their calves and pigs and piglets up close. Upon returning Jodie and Wayne re-appeared and asked if Joey would like to help release the chickens and collect their eggs, which of course he did. Joey also met ‘Rabi’ Bunny for the first time, for whom regular cuddles/carrot feeding became a daily occurrence. During the quieter parts of the day Joey was more than happy just playing on the playground, which is close enough to Valley View that we could hear him or simply sitting playing with the chickens & Rabi, which meant we could relax too. That night we had mentioned to Wayne and Jodie that we would like to fire up the pizza oven and we headed over to the bull ring around dusk. After helping Joey roast some marshmallows on the open fire, and sharing a few drinks with us, Wayne and Jodie ended up joining us for pizzas and spent the whole evening telling us some of their backstory and how they’d ended up at Big Bluff, it was a truly special evening that made us feel more like family than guests.
There were so many other amazing experiences throughout our stay that really made it a special trip for us, but I don’t want to write too much, and a little bit of me wants to keep it our secret! Suffice to say we will most definitely be returning at some point, most likely when Harry is a little older, but we just wanted to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Wayne and Jodie for everything they did for us, Joey has not stopped telling all and sundry about his time on the farm.
Until next time,
James, Heidi, Joey and Harry

Amazing experience for families

Jodie and Wayne were amazing hosts. We couldn’t recommend Big Bluff enough. We stayed in the Valley View cottage and it was amazing. Great attention to detail, comfortable and clean rooms. The breakfast basket on arrival with local produce was a great addition, as was a fire pit and using the pizza oven. The best part was being made to feel like we were one of the family on the farm. Our daughter loved riding around on the Polaris visiting the animals, including a brand newborn calf. You won’t regret a visit to Big Bluff.
