Quiet location, pleasant surrounds

Stayed in Brae Cottage in December, 2016. The cottage is very well equipped for up to 5 people and the makings of a generous breakfast were supplied. Hosts were very friendly & helpful. Thoroughly recommend the property for a quiet getaway, with near access to coastal towns & beaches.

Country stay at its best

There isn't much more to say than the previous couple of reviewers all ready did; as its exactly what they said except the fittings and bathroom are even more dated now and really are in need of an upgrade. We stayed at the Brae cottage as well and as we arrived around 5pm and in middle of winter we expected the fire to be made as it is the only way of heating there is. Unfortunately it wasn't made and it was very cold in the cottage when we arrived. Having said that, the owners are very friendly and helpful.
Fully agree with previous reviewers with the main bed being top notch and clean. Unfortunately this cant be said from the bathroom and kitchen (as well as the carpets all thru) as they are extremely dated and worn, i would call it old and totally outdated actually. There isn't any Internet, or mobile phone coverage at all there. Not sure how much effort it would take to build a `hotspot` as so you could at least have a little internet or phone coverage if needed. As for us, we didn't needed it but i am pretty sure a lot of people would appreciate some modern cons like this.
Overall a pleasant stay if you don't expect too much in modern comfort. ....Maybe i should say this is a good place to get away from all the modern cons these days.

A lovely place to stay

We recently stayed for three nights in The Brae cottage. It is the larger of the two cottages, with two bedrooms. The Wee Cottage is smaller, with one bedroom. The owners live on site, just on the other side of the driveway. It is a lovely quiet location, with occasional noise from the farm next door, but not a problem at all. The cottage is very comfortable, but as the other reviewer said, some of the fittings are a little dated. There is plenty of space and a washing machine, should you need it, TV and DVD player (I forgot to bring any DVDs unfortunately). Breakfast provisions are supplied and are very generous. Water supply is from a tank, so we were mindful of the need to be sparing with the water. There is no Telstra coverage here so we couldn't access internet. Yarram is 17 km away and there are a couple of good supermarkets and the historic Club Hotel. Places of interest nearby include White Woman's Waterhole and Tarra Bulga National Park which we visited and enjoyed. I can recommend these cottages for a peaceful holiday.

Comfortable accommodation in a peaceful country setting

We spent a weekend at this accommodation which is very close to the Tarra Bulga National Park. The property has two cottages. We stayed in the two bedroom cottage (the Brae) and were very happy with it. The cottages are set on a farm and have a very pretty outlook over the surrounding hills. The owners are on-site in the main house. Upon arriving it was a bit difficult to know where to go as there are no signs, so my advice is to head towards the front of the house as the owner will head out from that way to greet you.
The cottage and fittings were a little on the dated side but very clean and comfortable. We were welcomed by a plate of biscuits and fresh flowers, as well as breakfast provisions. There was a huge wood fire with plenty of chopped wood available for us to use. The main bed was extremely comfortable and the bedding lovely, soft and good quality. The shower was nice and hot too. The cottage has a comfortable living area with TV and DVD player. There was a full kitchen including microwave. The only drawback was that the cookware was rather worn out and badly in need of replacing. This didn't affect us as we hadn't planned on doing any cooking, but it might be worth bringing a couple of your own pots if you were planning to do so. There is a dairy farm next door so you may hear this going into action in the mornings, but we didn't find it overly noisy.
There is a town nearby (Yarram), approximately 10 minutes drive away which has a good range of shops and a hotel for meals. We had lunch at the bakery, which had the biggest range of cakes and sweets we've seen anywhere. I recommend stopping there either for supplies or a light meal.
Overall, we found our stay here quite comfortable and very relaxing, and would recommend it to others wanting a peaceful holiday location, or those wanting to visit the Tarra Bulga National Park.
