Convenient Location for the Ferry

We had a very pleasant stay at the Buccaneer Inn in Nanaimo. The room was comfortable and clean, and the location is very convenient, especially if you are travelling by ferry to or from Vancouver. It’s a very practical place to stay before or after your ferry trip.
A special mention goes to Suhail at the front desk, who was extremely friendly, kind, and welcoming. He made us feel very comfortable from the moment we arrived and was always happy to help.

Stay somewhere else

My advertised “sea view” room was on a curve of a busy street with no “sea” in sight. I have attached pictures of the views from the room windows. On my trip through Oregon, Washington and Vancouver Island, my evening here was the low light of the entire tour. The door lock was a bit off kilter so I didn’t feel particularly safe. The room was clean but everything was extremely dated so it did not have a clean feeling to it. It ended up being very noisy as a car alarm from the adjacent neighborhood was going off and someone else had metal pans strung over their garden to keep the birds away. Not a good value!

There has been many issues about cleanliness during our stay. There was milk left in the fridge by previous guests, eyeglasses left on the nightstand, dirty tissues behind the nightstand, dirty sofa bed sheets and not enough towels for the guests that were indicated on the reservation. We waited for a long time at the lobby to address these concerns but no one showed up until nearly one hour later. It's even very hard to lock our front door as you have to use a lot of strength to turn the lock to lock the door. The front desk staff tried to address our concerns but management never took care of the issues. The barbecue equipment outside didn't work, there was no A/C so we had to use floor fans and keep the front door and windows open all day. Our room was never cleaned by their cleaning staff during our stay. We constantly had to ask for soap and more linens. We asked for linens on the first day and the cleaning lady asked to see our sheets. Not worth the stay!!

ok but could have been better

Friendly staff (Suhail) and all good at check-in. the hotel is quiet and fairly comfortable, just in front of the ferry dock. One room had a very noisy fridge that we had to shut down and some cleaning issues (mugs were dirty and bed tables were sticky). double room is extremely small while the family suite is nice, although there was smell of past smokers even if non smoking room. overall the hotel is ok for a one night stop to get the ferry

This is not a five star property as its projected at best a 3 star rated motel.
The staff were very helpful.
