HI Penticton super duper Alice Cooper

A 3am check in was flawless - let them know in advance of the late arrival. Clean and quaint facility right in the heart of downtown. A great home base for the Okanagan Vinylfest I attended as a vendor. HI Staff were attentive and on top of their game. I shall return!

Not up to expectations

We’ve stayed in several Canadian Hostels and dozens more across the world. Maybe it was a newly painted up stairs but definitely strong odour ( maybe not just paint- masking a “smoking” incident ) present. Warm day and room stifling, flippantly assured that ac had just been fixed and it wasn’t working because the window was open. No the AC was not working properly and the minuscule cold puffs from the vent inadequate as at midnight it was still high 20s. Only relief when window opened- with accompanying street noise. So not our best experience. Ladies toilet shower room- all in one room no cubicle- door did not lock. I felt (maybe wrongly) the staff thought we were just old whingers- but not akin to our past experience of hostels

Horrible

Horrible stay. For many reasons:
1- The room : "B" is a private for 3 persons, right next to the bathroom where you can here in high definition EVERYTHING from your bed. It is an old house, so the sound travels pretty well through the walls. This room shouldn't be rented.
2- Mexican's staff house: There are a bunch of Mexican workers staying long term at the hostel for fruit picking season. In times of Covid, it is a bit worrying, we do not know if they're legal workers or not... the borders are supposed to be closed but anyway..
3- The management : These Mexicans were partying in the backyard with loud music and brought a bunch of friends from outside the hostel. From our window, we could hear everything and the window cannot be closed. During that time, a few times, some of those guys came under our room's window peeing, and again, we could here everything.
After the quiet time, we decided to call the manager at the number on the board since the receptionist wasn't there anymore. We tried to call a few times until she picked up. We spoke with the Manager and she told us to go and knock at the caretaker's door and to call her back if there's anything else. So we did. The caretaker went in the back and started to shout at the people to leave, and that they were closed. As he was walking past our window and still shouting, I decided to say to them " Hey, what's is going on, we are trying to sleep here" and the caretaker (a STAFF!!) started to shout at me and my partner "what are you expecting, it's an hostel, F**k you, come outside and I'll show you what trouble is " trying to engage a fight with my partner. Then he walked off the premises. At that point, we tried to call back the Manager many times again but she never picked up, so we decided to leave the hostel as we thought this is absolutely crazy and I didn't feel safe there anymore. Then, as we got outside, we could see the receptionist hanging out with the people partying at the back, and so we understood that he was friend with them and that it might be why those people were getting away with doing what ever they wanted at the back. An hour after we left the hostel, the manager finally texted me back but we were long gone... It would have been nice to receive help at the time that the incident was happening, not hours later.
4- The location: The hostel is situated in a sketchy area of the town, poor area. Lot of homeless, drug users and there was even a car on fire when we left the hostel one block away..

Great spot for a a great price

We stayed here for two nights in a shared dorm room. The building is definitely ordered but well presented and very clean. Ammenities are good and wifi work very well in our room. Very central location and staff were helpful and friendly.
