Amazing People
We did not stay here, so I cannot speak to the rooms (although they look nice), but the people here were so helpful and friendly in our time of need during the nationwide blackout on Feb 25, 2025, that I am sure they provide superb service to their guests. After all, they helped us, non-guests of the hotel, just people who wandered in off the street looking for help (no one else helped us. Not the police, nor restaurants, passersby, and internet was down and phones would work sporadically but usually went to VM).
We landed in Santiago that morning and were staying at the airport as we had a flight early the next morning. But after lunch we decided to go into town for a few hours.
Little did we know that during the taxi ride into town, the blackout occurred. Even when we were walking around the town, stopped at a cafe, acting like a tourist, we did not realize there was a blackout. After all, it was 90 degrees so we ate outside, shops had their doors open etc. We did think it strange that the stop lights were not working and it was a free for all at each intersection with traffic backing up for miles, the Metro was closed, and a lot of shops were closed early, and some had generators...but we were still oblivious to the scope of the problem.....until we tried to get back to the airport.
Few taxis were available, and those we found gave us a firm NO when we said we wanted to go to the airport (the normal 20 min ride probably would take them hours).
With no internet we could not get Uber, or use google, or google maps. We tried to call the hotel at the airport, but it went to VM, as did most calls we tried to make (I think the phone systems were down).
After a few hours of wandering around trying to get a taxi, make calls, etc, we decided to walk to a chain hotel I knew was several miles away and maybe they could help us or worst case have a room …but we wanted to get off the street before it was dark.
Halfway there we were thirsty, tired and exhausted…..but we saw this light on in this boutique hotel with people in the lobby.
They saw we were in need and jumped to the rescue. They ran and got us water, offered comfort, and even drove us back to the airport where we were staying …when no taxi.
Thank you Francisco (who I think might be the owner or manager) for driving us back to the airport. You were a life saver Francisco . You even waited in the parking lot to make sure we knew were to go.
Francisco and the hotel went beyond anything I could have imagined.
What hotel staff would take in someone who just walks in off the street and was not staying at their hotel, take care of them like they were a guest, and even drive them to the airport?
Great people and I suspect a great hotel. While our plans did not allow us to stay at the Hotel Ocaranza… you definitely should.

The power outage on February 25th was certainly an unusual and challenging situation across Santiago, and we are very happy that we were able to help during such a difficult moment. At our small boutique hotel in Providencia, we always try to take care of people the same way we would like to be treated, whether they are guests staying with us or travelers who simply need a hand.
Francisco and our team will be very touched to read your message. Knowing that we were able to make a stressful situation a little easier for you is the best reward we could receive.
We truly hope that on your next visit to Santiago, Chile, you will have the chance to stay with us and experience the hotel as a guest as well. It would be a pleasure to welcome you properly.
Thank you again for your beautiful words and for remembering us.
Warm regards,
Hotel Ocaranza Team
