Friendly, clean, access to WiFi

I had a wonderful stay at Sunshine Hotel this past summer. The employees were very friendly and welcoming throughout my stay. The hotel was overall pretty cleanly and I had access to hot showers which I was nervous about. I also had access to WiFi alongside a TV in my room. My personal favorite was the restaurant and its wide variety of choices that I would always look forward to by the end of the night. They also have free breakfast which was great but the city offers many cafes walking distance from the hotel. The location of the hotel is convenient as it’s only a few minutes walk from downtown. The hotel also had a Piano Bar which I only experienced once given that it’s only on Saturday’s, but it was a super popular event where they brought out live music to fuse R&B and Jazz along with the cultural Eritrean aspect and it was welcoming for all ages! Overall, I had a great stay and would recommend to those wanting to travel to Asmara in the future.

Good by local standards

The Sunshine is in a good location ten minutes walk from the main street with clean rooms, a helpful reception and even a Piano Bar. There are occasional power cuts - remember where you are - and the WiFi is highly erratic and not reliable. The single beds are both short and thin. English speaking by the restaurant staff is patchy with some orders of variable accuracy.

Comfortable, friendly staff, great food.

We stayed here three different times, for three nights, two nights and one night. The staff is very friendly and able to help with questions. Our room was large, with two single beds and a bathroom. While the shower was small, hot water was plentiful. There is a large wardrobe for unpacking and there is a small refrigerator to keep food and drinks cold. The lobby is very comfortable for relaxing. The breakfast has many options but the service needs a bit of help. And, one cannot have juice and coffee or tea without an extra charge, which is a bit annoying. The food in general is freshly made and tasty for lunch and dinner. Do not expect much from the “wi-fi”. The data signal from the service provider was never strong enough to use a VPN for certain websites, such as Facebook. And, more often than not, it simply cannot even load email. This is true all over town, however, including the Crystal, and the rest of the country. We also had laundry done at the hotel and it was perfectly done. The Sunshine is also conveniently located.

Eritrean Hospitality

If you are looking for upscale luxury, this is not your place. If you are looking for a sense of Eritrean hospitality, clean room with all the basic amenities, a very convenient location and reasonable prices, the Sunshine has it all.
We stayed 11 nights at the hotel in July. My room was on the second floor with a small balcony overlooking the street. The bed was comfortable, the room and bathroom were clean and we had daily cleaning service. The water was sometimes cold when too many folks showered at the same time but I took that in stride and reminded myself that not everyone in the city had a private bathroom and that put everything in perspective. It was fun to wake up to rooster cries at sunrise :)
The staff at the hotel, especially the front desk, was super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious, especially the honey and toast. Upon request, we had ful for breakfast and that quickly became my favorite. The dinner portions were very generous and the food was fresh and tasty. Especially the pasta dishes were great.
The hotel lobby is a popular meeting place for people talking business and on several evenings the piano bar was hopping with young and old people.

Old but clean

The hotel is dated but well maintained and clean. For Eritrea standards a good hotel in the center of Asmara.Crew is very friendly and helpfull. Service in the restaurant is good and the food tastfull. A hotel to come back to
