So so bad

The only thing this place has going for it is that the staff were nice enough. My friend and I are not high maintenance at all and had been staying in hostels for weeks prior, but this one was too much to handle. We booked through HostelWorld and it was NOTHING like the pictures. We entered the room and there was so much random crap on my bunk, old sheets that haven’t been changed, and stuff strewn across the floor. The charger was a loose power outlet on the floor that could not reach to the top bunk with my cord. Random men were coming in and out, talking with the receptionist very loudly and talking on the phone right outside of our room. We sat in bed for an hour looking for another place to stay before eating the cost of our reservation, cancelling, and going elsewhere. I understand people get in difficult situations, but based on the contents of the room, our “roommates” seemed to be a family that had been living there for quite some time, unless it was just random stuff that had been left there over time, which wouldn’t have surprised me. This is not a place that two adult men felt comfortable staying in, and I would not recommend it to anyone. They also claim defamation to get bad reviews removed from google, which Germany is very loose on.

Do not recommend

I do not recommend Pauli Hostel. I paid for two nights, and ended up leaving after the first night to stay somewhere else. The staff are nice, but that’s about the only positive thing I can say. The building smelled terrible, like an old church basement and cigarettes. The building itself was dirty and felt sketchy. If you are in Hamburg, it is worth it to stay somewhere else, especially for solo/female travelers.

Advertise their check-in times, but there was nobody there. Took over an hour to get in. Couldn't find a working locker.
Not the cleanest place. Would not stay there again.

2 toilets and 2 showers for each gender for the whole place. Floors covered in little hairs and dust specs. Comfy beds and nice staff. Enjoyed the metro accross the street

Absolutely not! Extra charges, dubious!

Just don't touch it! Extremely unfriendly. They don't respond to inquiries, you have to call. If you want to arrive later than reception hours, it's a huge problem and you have to pay extra because someone has to stay longer. Absolutely unprofessional and not recommended!!!
