I’ll start with the positives. The hotel is a few minutes walk from the train station, it is very clean, there is a good breakfast and we found the staff to be lovely and super helpful.
The hotel seems to run on the idea of ‘economy staff hours’. We were lucky to arrive on Friday evening at 7 pm just before the receptionist finished. Again, in fairness I had received very clear instructions on how to retrieve room keys but it would be normal to have a receptionist until 9/10 surely?
I was also surprised to discover that the hotel does not have provision to store luggage. My friend and I were in Heidenheim for a football match and needed to store our backpacks until after the game. The LOVELY receptionist offered to store our bags and actually come back to work in order to give us our bags (over and above service!) but I felt uncomfortable expecting her to do this (and just as well as I got the time of the game wrong - pesky UK time on iPhone) so we looked to see if there were baggage lockers at the station - thankfully there were so we used them.

Wonderful hotel. Rooms high quality with great designer furniture spartanly decorated. Ecological, sustainable. Friendly staff, friendly, courteous and delicious breakfast buffet in organic quality. What more do you need. Highly recommended.

Hotel top, place flop

We stayed at this hotel for the Heidenheim Opera Festival. And this hotel was pretty much the only highlight of our stay. Super clean, large rooms, large bathroom, plenty of storage facilities. Super comfortable bed. Free parking and Wi-Fi. Good breakfast. Great value for money. Everything very well maintained and lovingly designed, which unfortunately can no longer be said of the place HDH.
In the 80s I was there for 9 years as a young teacher and since then the place has apparently only deteriorated. Untended flower discounts, although the city has only recently hosted a state garden show. Dirt and filth everywhere, a largely terrible architecture, a lot of empty space, even in the pedestrian zone.
So, for the hotel gladly, but not for the place to come to HDH.
