Small family-run hotel close to centre

Room and facilities fine. It’s a small hotel so reception not staffed 24/7. Check your arrival time with hotel before booking. Good breakfast. A short walk from the town centre so a good base to explore this delightful small town. Tourist office very good.

Never again.

Here, I am only rating the reception: Upon checking in at the reception, we were informed that there was no reservation. The reason was a misleading sentence in the confirmation email ('please confirm if needed'), which we had not explicitly confirmed. When we politely pointed out that this could be phrased more clearly, we were suddenly told that there was no longer a room available. We had to leave the hotel. I have never experienced such unfriendly behavior before.

It couldn’t get worse! Never seen anything like this!

I can't recommend this hotel, especially for business travelers. It became clear at the time of booking that no payment on account is possible – which is extremely impractical for business trips.
On our arrival there were direct problems: We accidentally had some dirt under our shoes, whereupon we were instructed to wear overcoats. That alone would have been understandable, but the hotel owner later even came back to our room unsolicited to point out the dirt again. Our offer to clean or have the area cleaned ourselves was rejected.
The situation eventually escalated completely inappropriately: On the way to town for dinner, the owner ran after us and informed us that we were being expelled from the house. When asked for a justification, it was simply said that we were “disturbing the company peace” – a statement that was completely unclear and, in our view, unjustified.
Overall, a very unpleasant stay with behavior on the part of the hotel operator, which I found unprofessional and excessive.

Even a star is too much for such inappropriate and unkind treatment of the guest!!

After a short telephone contact, already very unfriendly handling of my request. Still made the mistake of arriving. The welcome did not seem welcome, but the behavior on demand to see the room before moving in was impossible. The good gentleman refused us this, told us that these kind of guests were his "loved ones" and that they would only be troubled. Besides, it would be under his dignity to show us the room in advance. We should then leave the hotel (after a five-hour drive).
My husband and I have never experienced anything like this, such unkind and seemingly narcissistic, offended behavior!
Thank God we quickly found a very great hotel by making us feel immediately welcome and comfortable.
I definitely cannot recommend the Hotel Marienlinde!!

Absolutely NOT recommended

Absolutely impossible behavior!
On the day of arrival we called that we would arrive only after reception opening hours (until 9 pm) (by public transport). The hotelier informed us that we would then not be able to come to the hotel, because the reception would then no longer be occupied (O-tone: "I can't work overtime on every guest who doesn't show up on time"). He was also not prepared to deposit the key ("that's too dangerous for me"), and neither did he have a key safe with a code. We had no choice but to book another hotel in Telgte (with night key safe + code). The next day we received a NoShow invoice from the hotel!!!!!!????
We wanted and needed the room, but we were not allowed to move into it after 9pm. Actually, not a "NoShow", but a "NoGive" and thus, in our view, immoral. Therefore: Absolutely NOT recommended!
