Beautiful view with a FREEZING pool!
Positives:
- The pool area was the best part of the hotel as it was peaceful and a cosy space to relax and calm down, the sun lounger beds were nice and comfy to sit on with comfortable pillows to rest your head on.
- The breakfast buffet had delicious food hot and cold there were little Greek pancakes and syrup there was a epic selection of spreads, the juices were very nice and there were two coffee and tea machines.
- A very good location because it was very close to the train station and a short walk to placa village a great place to eat with lots of delicious restaurants and great shops.
Negatives:
- On the stanley website it said that the pool was heated but when we got there the pool was freezing cold and really hard to get in to, we found that the mini fountains in the swimming pool were letting in luke warm water but they would come on at different times.
- If you booked breakfast included then if you woke up late then the food at the breakfast buffet would be cold and not fresh so you would have to have a cold breakfast.
- The location of the stanley is good for getting around but the view from your room is not good but the view on the roof top pool is magnificent for you can see all the mountains which is a amazing to see.

Freeeeeezzzing Pool!!!
One of the biggest highlights was the Executive Lounge. If you book an Executive Room, you get access to this lovely, air-conditioned lounge, where you can enjoy tea, coffee and soft drinks throughout the day. Between 4–7pm, wine and beer are also included, which was such a lovely treat that we hadn’t realised was part of our booking. It was a great place to relax, especially in the August heat.
We also ate at the hotel’s Cloud 9 restaurant. The food was generally very good — the club sandwich was lovely and the sushi was also excellent. One dish that really disappointed me, though, was the potato skins with sour cream. I expected something more like the potato wedges or skins you’d typically get in the UK, but these were literally the thinnest possible skins peeled from potatoes and fried. They were almost like potato dust and unfortunately weren’t enjoyable at all. I also felt some items on the menu were quite overpriced.
The location is convenient for getting around Athens. Plaka was only around an 8-minute taxi ride away, and taxis/Ubers were very reasonably priced costing around €6 to get there. There are also two gorgeous little bakeries right next to the hotel, which were perfect for grabbing lovely food and coffee.
However, the biggest negative for us was the area surrounding the hotel. Our transfer driver actually warned us on the way there that it wasn’t a particularly good area, mentioning the amount of homelessness and drug use nearby. Unfortunately, we found that to be true. From our hotel window, we could see people sleeping around the roundabout, along with quite a few people loitering in the surrounding area. We personally didn’t feel comfortable walking around there, particularly in the evenings, so we chose to order an Uber/taxi whenever we wanted to go out.
The other major disappointment was the pool. It is absolutely gorgeous and should be a real highlight of the hotel, but it was freezing. We visited in August when temperatures were around 32°C, yet the water was so cold that we simply couldn’t use it. We saw babies and children crying when they tried to get in, while adults were literally braving a very quick dip just to cool down. It was insanely cold.
I can only assume the pool is deliberately kept at that temperature, because surely the August sunshine would naturally warm it up otherwise. If the water were just a few degrees warmer, I think the pool area would be completely transformed. More guests would actually use it and the atmosphere around the pool would be so much better.
The pool temperature in particular is the one thing that would make me think twice about returning. Warm that pool up by a few degrees and this hotel would be so much easier to recommend.
