A Good Place to Stay and Eat

We stayed here from 15/7/17 to 22/7/17. The room was what we expected, which was basic, but it was large, comfortable and clean, but the bathroom had seen better days and could do with a re-fit. The hotel advertises TV in all rooms which is true, it is just that there were only channels available, 1 German, 1 French and BBC World News in English.
The staff are great, very friendly and helpful, with special mention to Harris and the Barman (forgotten his name, sorry). The pool area is excellent, plenty of space and sun beds and is kept spotlessly clean,
The selection and quality of food, for breakfast and dinner, were excellent and it required great self-restraint not to keep going back for more.

Poor

It is a very poor hotel: not very close to the beach (about 800 m), without a good wi-fi connection (it is impossibile from the rooms), essential breakfast. But it is important to notice that it is clean and there is a pleasant pool. Prices are quite good.

at last the had a bartender in the poolbar ho was nice,friendly en served the guests very well,keep on doing this,instead of the drunken French bartender,hotel service was as usual very nice,and the room where clean,only the bar at the reception should be more cousy

Never again

When Harry and Tim ran the hotel it was excellent and you felt at home there.We stayed there two years ago with the new management and the atmosphere was awful. You had to pay for air conditioning, the breakfasts were the same recycled food day after day and the manager and his cronies were rude and unhelpful.
We now stay elsewhere in Matala

" Certificate of Excellence" ?? I don't think so!!

My tour group stayed at the Europa Hotel one night.
We had a large room in one of the back buildings. The room had simple furnishings, a flat screen TV with one English channel and several French and German channels. There was a nice refrigerator in the room.
The bathroom sink leaked on to the floor, and they only provided us with one small bar of soap, nothing else, no shampoo!
Air conditioning appears to cost extra, we had to get a key and a remote control from the front desk to use the air conditioning.
For the pool, you are not allowed to use your room towel, you are supposed to supply your own. The pool is large and looks nice but we did not use it, as we did not travel with extra towels!!!
There are no lifts at this hotel, rooms are in several back buildings which could be a problem if your are mobility challenged.
The hotel grounds are very nice.
The breakfast was not memorable.
There must be better places to stay at in Matala, I do not recommend the Europa Hotel. Most of the reviews appear to be several years old, they do not deserve the "Certificate of Excellence" from Trip Adviser.
