Love the area and the outdoor public baths. The meals were good. My husband complained that there’s no meat but I like all the vegetarian dishes provided. Tasted very good. There’s a small fried fish and few sashimi slices. My husband rates the food to be 3/10 while I rate it 5/10 as I am amazed at how they make vegetarian dishes so well.
They do not serve any fish for breakfast which is quite unlike other ryokan we had been to. They had more vegetables and an egg for breakfast. I liked it though.
The ryokan had free shuttle service for pick up and drop off to coincide with the bus times, very convenient, responsible and timely.

The Last Secret Inn in Kanto

I wanted to go, Mr. Kanitoyu.
The hot water shower is not available due to the water pipe failure due to the avalanche beforehand,
I found it on the website that the construction was completed on the day of my stay, but actually I could not get a hot water shower.
I had no choice but to wash my body and hair by pouring hot water from the bath paddling.
It was such a wonderful hot spring that I felt like I had no choice but to be in this location, but didn't mind the inconvenience.
The main source of the bluish milky-white turbid water of the sulfur spring is a real hot spring.
The open-air baths are mainly mixed baths, but they're large for women only, and I've bathed here mainly many times.
I wrapped a towel around the open-air bath for the first time.
Forty-five different water sources divided into smaller tubs, non-dominant hot water (Roman hot water)
I was looking forward to it, but the water temperature was different and everything was not in.
I especially liked the golden water because I saw a beautiful waterfall that was thin in front of me.
It was worth swaying along the mountain path for about two hours, with a sense of unity with nature, murky hot water flowing from the source that heals both body and mind.
We had a delicious meal with plenty of mountain produce.
The handmade tofu for breakfast is as smooth as a pudding and I'd love to eat it again.
I will visit Kaniyu again, which is attractive to lovers of flowing hot springs because of the rustic nature of the mountain hut.

It is truly a one-of-a-kind secret hot spring that you should visit at least once in your life. Unbelievably cool in the intense heat.

It is a little over an hour's drive from Nikko over the mountains, where you get out of the car and take the inn bus to meet you, which is less than 30 minutes down a dirt forest road. If you go into the room and open the window, you can enjoy the coolness just by hearing the long waterfall in front of you and the sound of the headwaters of the Kinu River flowing below. There is no air conditioning, but the fan installed is cool enough. In addition to the hot springs, there is also a pool in summer, where you can enjoy plenty of secluded hot springs.

The water supply system is out of order.

From the official website
・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・
Apology for water pipe failure
The water supply system failed due to the influence of the avalanche, and the shower and hot water
It is no longer available.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
We are back in business thanks to your water conservation efforts.
It will take some time to recover.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
We sincerely apologize for this.

Especially for women, the hot springs are sulfur springs, so I can't wash my hair.
It is also quite hard not to use hot water even in the middle of winter.
I hope the water pipes recover soon.

Nigoriyu, the best.

This is a secluded inn run by the descendants of Heike no Ochudo. I visited here in mid-December on a solo trip. Perhaps because it was the low season, it was a good value at about 15,000 yen per person per night for two meals. It takes 2 hours from Kinugawa Onsen Station by city bus and shuttle bus, but it is a secret hot spring well worth visiting.
【Room】
It was a Japanese-style room of 10 tatami mats on the riverside of Sekizenkan (there is also a room with a bed). The view was a cliff with a view of Kinu River and columnar joints. The room had a unit bath and toilet. The air conditioning in the room was working well and it wasn't cold.
【bath】
Only one outdoor bath is reserved for women, and all others are mixed, but the bar is low because you can wrap bath towels around the inn. In addition, it was an off-season, so it was mostly reserved. All of them are spring water. The one in the sulfur spring was cloudy.
【Cooking】
The standard course is just ordinary mountain village cuisine. It looks plain, but tastes good. Guests can enjoy game dishes as an option.
This is a recommended inn for those who are particular about pouring hot spring water.
