Good choice

It's a nice basic hotel on the river front to sit and watch river activities and a perfect location for the boat drop off / pick up as literally a few steps away. It's a reasonable price so the room is nothing fancy. But it was clean and the bed comfortable. Lots of noise from the stairs and you can hear guests on the adjoining rooms. Great view for breakfast which was great one day and hopeless the next. Oddly enough for the choice on the island and the kindness off the staff we would probably stay again or up the budget and stay elsewhere but they didn't seem to flash either!

Rip off

I booked his stay on booking.com as a basic deal.
I booked this hotel because they state that they have a swimming pool. When I arrived I was shown to my room and given the WiFi, I tried connecting to the wife and it did not seem to be working.
When I asked about the swimming pool the young girl checking me in laughed and said “no pool” and then showed me a swimming pool with no water inside. The manager was away.
I decided I was not going to stay here and booked myself into a hotel up the road with a fully working pool for the same price.
As the manager was away I said to him over the phone that I would come back later that evening when he was back.
I told him that I wanted a refund as the property was not as advertised and it’s expensive compared to other properties without a pool. He laughed and said “not expensive” “not for you” he then walked off. I did not get my refund.
Booking won’t help with this issue also as it
Was a basic booking.
Very disappointed in the hotel, staff and general whole experience.

Bungalow

Most accommodations lined the northern part of the island with almost all of them facing the river. Pan’s Bungalow wasn’t even a five minute walk from the boat dock and it’s six simple bungalows we’re facing the river with a nice balcony with hammocks. Despite the remoteness, we were pleased that the bungalow was equipped with AC, hot water, and a fridge. Other than two or three properties that actually looked like hotels, most accommodations looked similar. The bungalows are too close together but luckily we were the only guests so we enjoyed the isolation. We had to walk a few minutes to another property for breakfast but we didn’t mind as the Panoramic Restaurant had one of the best views from the island. The omelette and pancakes they cooked to order were tasty and filling.

Does Pan care about the wellbeing of his guests?

Pros -- conveniently located within steps of the "ferry" dock; clean by SEA standards; the bed was decent only because there were two in the room and we chose to sleep on the mattress not the box spring. Asians haven't figured out that the two actually go together. Two beds for the price of one? The shower was separate from the toilet. A HUGE plus!!
Cons -- The "office" was never occupied. We never officially checked in, but some random girl brought a key and let us into our room. We had reservations for two nights but, after losing electricity (in the entire town) two nights in a row, we left. When the electricity goes out, so does the water because the pump won't work. When we checked out, we suddenly met Pan, who spoke decent English. Up until then, we didn't see one person who seemed to understand us or care. With lots of sign language, the breakfast server finally understood that we had no power -- when the rest of the building did. Did anyone check on us? NO! The WiFi works better from the restaurant across the road so we bought a coffee to get the password, then walked back to our room to use theirs instead of Pan's. If we'd broken an ankle trudging through the mud and potholes, where would we have gotten help? Not from Pan, that's for sure. Thank God for Fred at Chez Fred et Lea, up the road. He fed us great food and got us tickets to escape the end-of-the-world island.
My husband was looking forward to seeing the history of this area. By this point of our trip, I was ready to find the nearest airport that could get me back to the first world. We aren't young and we should have done this kind of crazy travel 40 years ago. Now that we are safe at home, I can honestly say I am glad we did this crazy trip, but my husband owes me a luxury trip to Europe!! After 6 weeks in Africa next year!!

Pan's Bungalow - didn't want to leave

The bungalows are a little away from the residence and offer a great opportunity for relaxation and watching the Mekong River. They are built along the waterfront so the reason for coming here, the Mekong is right in front of you. Comfortable, clean and well serviced they offer a good deal with breakfast included in their nearby restaurant.
The staff are superb, particularly Bounmie who will truly go out of his way to ensure you have a tremendous vacation. There are trips to see the sunset over the Mekong (a must do), to see rare Irrawaddy dolphins, and around the island.
As you would expect, the accommodation is rustic, but just what you want in such a setting. Highly recommended.

Very good location
