Good lunch with B&B in centre old city

Our guide had planned and booked a lunch in this cozy little B&B, where Jeanne made for us a special lunch menu. From the balcony we could look over the old roofs of the neighbouring buildings and towards some churches. Very relaxed and good food.

Homestay and hospitality

I stayed for 1 night and participated in a cooking lesson with Patrick. They have 2 nice rooms upstairs, with a view. Toilet and shower is downstairs. The house is located in "veille ville" in Finar, the old town. Very peaceful setting. The food is top quality. Some of the best in Madagascar, at very affordable prices. Highly recommended.

Quaint homestay

Fantastic location in the Haute Ville of Fianarantsoa. The owners are a lovely couple, and they done an amazing job of bringing an old building which had been empty for over 50 years back to life. It’s budget accommodation, so a few things to consider:
- There’s no WiFi
- It’s a 5-10 minute walk uphill from where the road ends. You’re likely to get some low-level mither from local guys wanting to sell stuff or act as a guide.
- There’s one loo and one shower for three rooms. They’re down a steep stair, and it’s pitch black at night if you need to use the loo. The shower is very much a work in progress. No pressure and no hot water. In fact my shower consisted of a jug of cold water.
Breakfast was plentiful, but I didn’t eat an evening meal as I went to the catering school restaurant at a nearby college (highly recommended).

Best place I stayed since long time!

Julienne and Patrick really go the extra mile to make you feel good. The place is very clean, everyone is extremely friendly, the food is outstanding... it feels very traditional and local, but never you need to worry that something is not clean or well made. They pricing is extremely fair.
You will love it for sure!!
The breakfast is mind-blowing! The view with the sun in the morning priceless! And they even organised to have food on late arrival (and early departure)!
Big thank you to Julienne and Patrick, as well as to the kids!

Price, Hospitality, and Food.

I booked this place on Booking.com, there were only a few place in Fianarantsoa where I could reserve online. The photographs were not that good and price was pretty cheap. So I didn't expect much. Just for one night, I can handle it. I thought. Boy was I surprised. I arrived on a night with pouring rain, and Julienne welcomed me with such hospitality and attentiveness, both of which are hard to come by at this price range in Madagascar. Traditional rooms were spacey and comfortable enough, and only blemish was toilet and shower is shared. But even that, they clean it often and keeps it in good condition. Also, if you're here you have to eat dinner here as well. Juelienne is a great cook, one of best Madagascar food I had in my 3 weeks time on the island was here. So good that I stopped by here again for one more night after my first visit. If you're spending a night here I'd definitely recommend it. It's little bit hard to find but someone on the streets will guide you. For the price, this is not only a bargain, but a place to sample little bit of local Madagascar life.
