Exceptional Riad Stay

From arriving a little earlier than expected to check out, it was faultless.
We were offered mint tea on arrival, and it was by far the best we had during our stay!
Ishmael checked us in, and pointed out on the map he provided how to get around and directions to all the sites.
Breakfast every morning was freshly made, with yoghurt, fruit, fresh orange juice, coffee and pancakes.
We were in a downstairs room, so it was straight out and sit down!
Our room was bigger than expected, and always cleaned when we went out.
The location is around 15-20 mins walk to the square, and other locations ( apart from the Jardin Majorelle ) are fairly close by.

Beautiful Riad

Arrived at around 12, moroccan tea was offered to us straight away and room was ready instantly. Stayed on the ground floor just by dining area with no issues at all. Lovely clean rooms & lovely smiley people. Fresh fruit, yogurt, pancakes, coffee and orange juice for breakfast which was very nice. Even though we came home from dinner 10/11pm some evenings we never felt uncomfortable knocking on the door to be let in. Would definitely stay again

Disappointing Group Floor Room

We got the ground floor room, next to the lobby desk (most Riads don't) and breakfast tables outside our door. Told there were no other rooms available so left after one night to a 'European' style hotel disappointingly.
The price had also dropped since we booked, but that is normal out of season with rooms still available.
To be fair, Riads may work for some, but in this case: room safe not working, bathroom tap loose with green copper rust (another guest complained about his too), shower holder some crust, random screw pointy end sticking out, double bed broken/dipping on one side and made with two single mattresses. Didn't use the jacuzzi but it was covered over.
Nb: generally Riads are in maze-like alleys, safe and some lighting, but broken paving and uninviting (as much as the locals who live there as the privileged tourist).

A very quiet human-sized dar in the medina

Small dar in a dead end of 6 bedrooms that all overlook an inner courtyard.
Home 24/24 very available and pleasant.
Good breakfast with fruit and yogurt.
Very quiet except the 5am muezzin (especially on Friday), but this is the rule in Morocco.
Sometimes a few conversations out loud on the patio.
No need to order a taxi by the reception: there are always some in front of the hospital and ours that was supposed to arrive within 5 minutes was not there after 20 minutes.

Good but not Great!

Stayed here for 5 nights in February and all in all had a nice enough time. The riad itself is excellent and the breakfasts are superb (but see later)... as for the room we had it was really comfortable and cleaned each day to a high standard. Location-wise it really couldn't have been better or what we wanted; very close to the Kasbah and a short walk from other must-see / must-do things such as the Medina. Only two things stopped me from giving this a 5-star review... first of all when we first arrived (which was late at night after a delayed flight) we were greeted only to be told that we didn't have a reservation. Not the best thing to hear in Marrakech close to midnight. Having insisted that we did and showing the paperwork we had then the guy who'd greeted went off to check and came back to say 'yes we did have a reservation after all'. So not a biggee but a bit worrying. Then a couple of days later we were due to be out early for a day-trip up into the Altas Mountains. We had been told by the same guy that breakfast was served from 7am to 10am and as we needed to be out before 8 this all seemed to be OK... until we headed down for breakfast at 7.15 only to find the place still in darkness. Once again this was quickly solved by 'the guy' but the truth of it was that we ended up being served half a breakfast. My advice would be to forewarn 'the guy' if you are heading out early so that he's aware - something we should have thought to do in hindsight. Despite all this, I'd still recommend Dar Sholmes... just be sure to get very specific directions to where its located.
