No recommendations and pictures do not match

On April 12th I travelled to Marrakesh. Before arrival I had agreed with the hotel that a taxi would be waiting at the airport. On arrival, however, this did not appear to be arranged. After several phone calls, it was indicated that someone would still be sent. Eventually I was dropped off at the main square in the medina, without further guidance to the riad. For someone who is not familiar in Marrakech, this can be very confusing.
Upon arrival the reception was friendly and I was taken to a room on the top floor. However, the room was in poor condition. There was a strong, unpleasant smell and the doors did not close properly, leaving large gaps. This caused draughts, cold and an uncomfortable stay. In addition, the air conditioning did not function properly; it was only on heating and the room felt humid and unhygienic.
That same evening I reported my complaints to the reception several times. A staff member did not respond very professionally to this and indicated that this would be “normal” in Morocco and that many guests would be satisfied with this room. Based on previous trips through Morocco, I absolutely do not recognize this image.
The next day I was offered another room, along with a free massage as compensation. Although this room was slightly better, the unpleasant smell remained and the general hygiene of the riad left something to be desired in my opinion. For that reason, I did not take advantage of the breakfast and rejected the compensation offer.
The circumstances made me feel very uncomfortable during my stay and I decided to cut my trip short early and go back home. My total stay in Morocco ended up lasting only 43 hours.
However, I would like to emphasize that the lady at the reception was friendly and helpful.
The photos on Booking.com do not give a realistic picture of the actual condition of the property. After posting my review, I was contacted by the owner by phone with a request to remove my review in exchange for a partial refund. In good faith, I deleted my review. However, more than four weeks have now passed without any refund or further communication. That's why I'm reposting my review.

Staff were angels to us

Myself and small son stayed here for a few nights last August following a 10 day stay in their sister hotel, and upon arrival we became very sick from a tourist bug (nothing to do with the hotels). My small son had a very high fever and vomiting which is dangerous to a small child, and there were no local medical facilities available on a Sunday. The cleaning team dropped everything they were doing and brought ice buckets and cloths and spent an hour placing them on my son until he cooled down, along with bringing us bottles of water and specially made herbal tea to calm the stomach. They were able to bring his temperature down naturally and then insisted upon making us a beautiful health fuelled 3 course meal free of charge once we were well enough to eat. Particularly the in house staff are literal angels and we could not have stayed in a better place while being unwell. The facilities are beautiful and traditional and the food is exquisite. I highly recommend based on the staff alone although the facilities are equally exquisite.

Simply Amazing

After a shakey start to our holiday due to another Riad losing our booking The guys at The Riad Persephone saved the day and were simply amazing from start to finish and could not do enough to help. Room was stunning, views amazing, breakfast delicious and the massage was just heavenly. We didn't get chance to use everything as there is so much to do in the area but did our best and it was so peaceful sitting in the pool on the roof terrace just soaking up the sun at the end of a long day out in the buzz of it all We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend this Riad and Anas and his team were just so friendly and helpful it was like a home from home for us and nothing was too much trouble.

Excellent Experience

Had a great time at the Riad Persephone. Clean and tidy, and a true experiwncw of Morrocan Culture. Excellent staff, with a shout out to Anas who is very helpful. Well positioned off the main square, which is only a 2 minute walk. Worth a visit and will be back.
