For the experienced expat traveller in Africa, the Dilic is ok, well located
Next, are the large independent hotels in the $100 to $150 range -- Chelsea, Reiz, Bollngo, Rockland, Barcelona, Newton Park and a few others. They superficially look like the big branded hotels with lots of rooms, big public areas and restuarants . But they all lack something to be four star: weird furniture and decor, spotty service, bad smells, questionable food, dirty pools, intermittent internet, something that says we are not there yet. An honest evaluation would put them in the two to three star category with four star aspirations. For many, including me, this is ok. I've stayed at the Reiz and Chelsea. Charmless and unmemorable but clean and secure, Chelsea at $100 and Reiz at $130. These hotels host a lot of local conferences and meetings and are marketed to a Nigerian business and Nigerian expatriate audience and the budget minded expatriate businessman. Not the stuff for many first time expat business travellers to Africa. For them, the Hilton is the only place to go.
And now to the third level --- the places like the Dilic Hotel, the hotel I am reviewing. Charmless but affordable, ranging from $45 to $65 a night with mandatory weekend specials. (12,500 naira weekday; Naira 10,500 weekend --- all negotiatble.) I often stay at these places because they provide me exactly what -- a clean, decent sized room in a secure area with wifi and TV and possibly decent food. That's the Dilic. Charmless but reasonably priced, reasonably clean and secure. Tile floors that can be washed daily. Minimal textiles that would otherwise hold bad doors. Large but tasteless rooms outfitted with forgetable local furniture. And a rock hard bed --- which I prefer. The staff, who are very charming and try their best, look out for me and my crew. The food is limited to rice dishes, Nigerian dishes and spaghetti, and is surprisingly good. The hotel is across from a large department and grocery store, Exclusive Stores, where one can get drinks, snacks, groceries or eat at the cafe or fast food restaurant. The neighbourhood is interesting, fashionable, and a quick $1 cab ride to the popular Banec Plaza shopping and Maitama or Wuse II night life. A nice area of Abuja with things to do. These charmless hotels are not everyone's cup of tea, especially among the expats. During my two week stay, one Chinese and one Pakistani rounded out the expatriate contingent of myself and my senior engineer. Others were Nigerian politicians and businessmen primarily from the East of Nigeria where the late owner of the hotel was a member of the Nigerian House of Reps. In the past the placed rocked at night with local politicos, full of talk and laughter. No so now. With the passing of ownership to the children and a hired manager, the place is quiet. If you go to the Dilic, just tell them that Mr. Rose ("ah, a man with a woman's name, wonderful"), sent you.

Affordable stay in Abuja city
The room decor was fairly ok at least for the moderate price charged but the food was amazing as I had room service deliver to me on two occasions.
The toilet was really small and needs refurbishment,the flusher was not functioning.
Overall,I will give the hotel 55%
