Charming and welcoming hotel with a calm atmosphere

Great service, welcoming and a quiet place. Food is great and it’s just a lovely place to stay. It’s old, it’s charming. Our room was clean, bathroom maybe not the most modern but it was good enough, our room had a bathtub which I badly needed after 3 days in a tent. A small balcony and we had a view of the waterfall area but it was foggy but who cares when you can just walk out and see for your self.
I was not lacking anything. Love when you go to a hotel where service is great without being in your face, overdoing it. I would absolutely stay here another time when passing thru Norway.

We got here as all other hotels in the area were booked, and I am glad we did. Fantastic hotel in an amazing location. Never mind the cost, this is well worth it.

A stay of other times

Beautiful stay, very kind staff, great breakfast and dinner, the chef offers excellent dishes. Hotel of great charm, in a magical location. Price in line with the offer and the peculiar beauty of the stay.

A trip out of time

We have learned to avoid the overly touristy and crowded locations in Norway in favor of those that are a bit more off the beaten path, but calm and quiet (which is how one should enjoy this splendid country). Eidfjord is cute, but really too chaotic (especially if a cruise ship has docked...!). We opted for the Fossli because of its unique location overlooking the Vøringfossen waterfall park. A real treat: you check in and, as soon as you step out, you find the park at your feet...too convenient! The waterfalls are impressive and visible from a series of panoramic terraces that will put those who suffer from vertigo to the test. I visited almost all of them anyway; the view is truly worth it! As for the hotel, it is a real blast from the past. With a history that deserves to be read, it is a very elegant property, but one that needs a bit more proactive management. There is renovating and restoring to be done; the meals definitely need to be re-evaluated, including the cafeteria next to the entrance. The dining room somewhat evoked the epic Overlook Hotel for us, with its slightly neglected air. The room was beautiful, with a small panoramic balcony overlooking the park (but, first and foremost, the parking lot). It is wonderful to be able to hear the roar of the waterfall. Next to the park entrance, and therefore in the vicinity of the hotel, you will find the charging station. Until they seriously address the issues, I only recommend the Fossli for its wonderful location.

This is a very traditional hotel. The only negative is the lack of a lift but staff were more than happy to carry bags to rooms. The hotel has a lovely history and is still run by the family who built it over 100 years ago. Much of the original decor is preserved and respected amongst updated amenities. Dinner at the restaurant (there are not many, if any, convenient, local alternatives) was fancy and exceptional. It's location cannot be beaten and a walk around the waterfall is a must. For those with mobility issues, the waterfall has convenient viewing platforms accessible from the hotel car-park.
