Authentic Medieval Hotel

Last minute choice for accommodation whilst passing through the area. Quick, friendly and efficient check in, room is clean and quiet.
One thing we love the most, is the Medieval authenticity as you walk from the reception area, upstairs to the rooms. It’s traditional and really creates a great atmosphere for the area of Transylvania.

I could not sleep because of the loud music

Bad hotel
They don’t give money back when you are not satisfied about your visit and go away,
cause of loud music..

Central, good rooms, appalling breakfast

Right on the main square, the hotel is accessed through the car park. The place has no lift so I had to carry my bag three stories through a beautiful quirky building. My room was spacious with great furniture. The mattress was rather thin though. There was a kettle and Nescafé. My shower had a spray feature jacuzzi like (no. 10). Breakfast was uneatable: stale bread, orange squash, cold sausages and dry tired scrambled eggs.

Old times hotel with a medieval flavor

I was quite surprised to discover this hotel as it looks from the outside more like a fortress and doesn't have the classic look or feel of a modern hotel. One would expect a classic hotel building and instead one discovers an old building, probably more than 100 years old which have seen better days in the past. The entrance staircase reminds you of old balls having been hosted there and soon you discover that you have ring the bell in front of a locked door in order to be allowed to enter a long hallway preceding the reception area.
Once you leave the reception the entire look of the hotel changes and you realise that you surrounded by old objects nicely refurbished and repainted. The entire feel is that you really are in a medieval inn and you almost hear the carriage horses neighing in the inner courtyard.
The is no elevator and you will have to carry your own luggage up and down the stairs and you are lucky that there are only three floors to climb.
The rooms are not so great, but comfortable enough. The furniture is the type of old German furniture i.e. of painted wood and is solid enough to survive the passing of time but with a tongue in cheek when it comes to comfort.
The hotel has a summer garden and wine cellar which acts also as the main restaurant. The food is average in price and quality and don't expect cuisine marvels in this place. If you are hungry, then you will find something to eat according to your taste.
The location is great, as the hotel is in the old part of Medias city and it makes a very nice walk along the narrow winding streets if you feel like it.
It is a nice experience to have after making contact with modern hotels around the world and sometimes it is really worth turning back in time for an old times sake experience.

Traube: Has Potential, Yet to be Met

My daughter and i found the need to eat regularly at the Traube Hotel restaurant while visiting Medias for two weeks this summer because it has one of the very few real restaurants in town. We were consistently amazed at the poor wait service the Traube offered, as well as the mediocrity of the food. I came away feeling very exasperated that this major hotel on the downtown main plaza could not get its act together & rise to its potential. My feeling was that Medias has a ton of potential as a tourist destination & the Traube ought to be central to that tourism. But unless the Traube figures out how to welcome people and do a great job with food service, among other things, its actually hurting tourism as much as it is helping it. I urge the Traube Hotel to take leadership in helping Medias shine as a place people can visit. Train your chefs and your wait staff so you can at the very least run a decent restaurant.
